Sustainable Silicon Valley Welcomes New, Honors Outgoing Board Officers

Sustainable Silicon Valley (SSV) today announced that Masaru Sakamoto, General Partner at Hack Ventures and Ray Martin, President and CEO of Advanced Lighting Technologies have been appointed Co-Chairs of the Board of Directors. Jamie Orr, Ph.D., a Physicist and faculty member at Foothill College has been named Board Secretary, while Carl Hekkert, Controller at SVB Financial Group will continue as Board Treasurer. Randy Bane will become President for Strategy, Business Development and Technology. Executive Director, Marianna Grossman will also become Chief Evangelist, leading outreach, consulting, and programs while providing sustainability expertise for the organization. Olivia Teter joins the Board bringing expertise as an entrepreneur, designer and Biomimicry champion.

SSV thanks Frank Teng for his service as President and Chris Schwarz for his service as Secretary. SSV Chief Evangelist Marianna Grossman said, "Frank Teng and Chris Schwarz have provided extraordinary leadership to SSV, bringing their industry knowledge to help guide our strategy and programs. We appreciate their continued service on the Board. We are pleased to welcome new Board officers to continue leading SSV and the Silicon Valley forward to a more sustainable future."

Masaru (Mas) Sakamoto and Ray Martin are both entrepreneurs with corporate executive experience. Sakamoto brings strategic acumen and an international perspective, having served as an executive at NEC and as a leader of several startups and industry associations. Martin holds several patents and knows how to engage others in making a vision real. He is CEO of an advanced LED technology company, ALT Inc. Olivia Teter’s career has focused on the intersection between business, design and sustainability. Teter is the founding President of the Green Chamber of Commerce and focuses on building awareness of Biomimicry in the world. Professor Jamie Orr is leading a consortium of academics to develop curricula for environmental engineering and sustainability. SSV will provide the voice of business and government employers to help shape the educational offerings to match current and future job requirements. Randy Bane was VP and Chief Economist at Applied Materials, holding roles in marketing, investor relations and also working with startup Prometrics and at Intel. SSV is partnering with NASA, US Dept. of Commerce, Stanford and Taksha Universities, IBM, Symantec and others to organize the annual WEST Summit on May 22, 2014 at Stanford University’s Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center. The WEST Summit Call for Solutions is now open and looking for scalable, creative ideas that can have a game-changing impact on sustainability.
