This is Hull and East Riding --

PINEFLEET Wolfreton and Hessle Town Girls under-16s once more served up a thriller, with Pinefleet snatching the spoils with a 3-2 victory.

As a Pinefleet attack broke down, deep in the Hessle half, Shannon Welsh skillfully got on the end of a flowing passing move to score.

Pinefleet dug deep to respond with Courtney Haller a tower of strength, finding strong clearances into hard working midfielders Jess Thompson, Sophie Arnold, Hannah Wood and Jodi Clay.

Great link-up play between Thompson and Emily Escreet, released Arnold on a twisting run and she hit a left-foot drive past the diving keeper.

Impressive Hessle responded almost straight after the break. The Pinefleet defenders struggled to clear the ball from a corner, and Olivia Ward hammered home from the edge of the 18-yard box.

At 2-1, the game ebbed and flowed. For Pinefleet, Rosie Goodwin, Kate Jowsey and Asha Singh remained solid at the back and continuously intercepted Hessle attacks.

Following a neat lay-off from Olivia Gaunt, Escreet broke from midfield and rolled a measured pass to Wood, who smashed the ball into the net.

At 2-2, Hessle piled on the pressure with Courtney Brown prominent.

From a corner, the excellent Pinefleet keeper Sarah Walters stretched out a strong left hand to tip a shot from Shannon Tate over the bar.

With minutes remaining, Gaunt went close with a shot and from the resulting corner, a pinpoint cross from Clay found Wood, who volleyed home.

Pinefleet held on for the remaining few minutes to take the spoils, in an excellent all-round team performance where Lauren Knowles, Ellie Sheperdson and Amber Matthews all made telling contributions.

MILL Lane moved up to third by beating Malet Lambert 2-1 to complete a hat-trick of wins.

For the first 10 minutes, Malet enjoyed a spell of midfield superiority and threatened to break through.

However, Mill Lane's defence, including Chloe Bell and Chloe Johnstone, were equal to the task and Malet's possession went unrewarded.

In a 20-minute spell, the balance of the game swung towards the hosts.

Mill Lane's Courtney Osler broke the deadlock with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.

A cross to the far post was dispatched from close in by Keely Forward for 2-0.

The visitors' keeper tipped a chipped effort over from Jodie Brown.

Malet had their chances, including Amy Knott's looping shot from a tight angle that skimmed the bar.

For the majority of the second half, Mill Lane took hold of the fixture and a comfortable win looked on the cards.

But goals were not forthcoming thanks to stout Malet defending, a slight lack of urgency in the final third of the field from the hosts and a little luck, with Courtney Fee's shot hitting the bar.

The last 10 minutes belonged to Malet as they threw everything into an effort to save the game.

Initially the Mill Lane defence looked calm under the pressure, especially Hannah Smith who gave a season's best performance, but Malet sent in wave after wave of attacks.

Winger Robyn Allen threatened to break through the Mill Lane defence. When Malet did eventually break through the defensive line, Emily Hood pulled off a great full-length save.

A similar parried shot fell to a completely unchallenged Emily Warvill, who put her side back in the match, but Mill Lane held on.

Mill Lane: Chloe Bell, Jodie Brown, Courtney Fee, Keely Forward, Lizzy Fitzgerald, Emily Hood, Kaytie Houldridge, Chloe Johnstone, Millie O'Neill, Courtney Osler, Emma Smith, Hannah Smith, Emma Wray. Reported by This is 18 hours ago.
