How much do people in Plymouth tip at Christmas? This is Plymouth -- HOW generous are you at Christmas? Do you give extra tips in the festive period, to thank people for their hard work throughout the year? The Herald took to the streets of Plymouth to find out whether people still like to tip their milkman, hairdresser or paper boy, or whether just paying for these services is enough. Plymouth University students Astrid Tancock, aged 18 and 19-year-old Matthew Granger, said they struggle to tip at any time of year but try to when they can. Astrid said: "I think it's really important to tip people, I've worked as a waitress and it does make a difference. "People don't tip as much as they used to, things are so expensive anyway. "I cut my own hair so I save money that way." Susan, who was out shopping in the city centre said: "I don't tip more at Christmas. "I don't think you should have to because prices are astronomical. "Everything is so expensive I think that tips are factored into the price, unless you get exceptional service." Plymouth City Council workers Olivia Carder, aged 19 and Tasha Dowse, aged 20 said they always like to tip, not just at Christmas. Olivia said: "We do it all year round. My hairdresser is pregnant so I gave her a bit more last time I saw her as I won't see her for a while." Tasha added: "We don't really tip more at Christmas, if you do it all year round then it shouldn't be expected. Michael and Dorothy Dyson were enjoying a coffee on Armada Way. Michael said: "If you go to the restaurant and the food is good you should always tip. "We always give to charity and tip in restaurants." Dorothy added: "It is courtesy to tip if you have a good experience, I give my hairdresser a little more at Christmas." Reported by This is 8 hours ago.
