ISLE of Axholme actress Sheridan Smith appears in BBC One drama The 7.39, which begins today - Monday, January 6.

Sheridan plays the part of health club manager Sally Thorn in the two-part romantic drama.

It follows the story of Sally and sales executive Carl Matthews, played by David Morrissey, who meet and start up a friendship on their daily commute.

It is the latest high-profile role to be taken by Sheridan, who won the Best Actress Bafta for her performance in Mrs Biggs.

The 7.39 also stars fellow Bafta winner Olivia Colman and former EastEnders actor Sean Maguire.

The first part will be screened at 9pm, with part two to follow at the same time on Tuesday, January 7.

Sheridan is also set to star alongside comedian David Walliams in a new West End production of My Fair Lady, according to reports.

It comes after she paired up with the Little Britain star in A Midsummer Night's Dream earlier this year.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Sheridan will play the role of Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle to David's Professor Henry Higgins.
