ITV and BBC2 dominate drama nominations at critic-voted awards, as Channel 4 takes all four places in documentary list
Three of the biggest dramas of 2013, ITV's Broadchurch and BBC2's Top of the Lake and The Fall, have been nominated four times each at the Broadcasting Press Guild awards.
All are in the running for the best drama series, while there are also acting nods for Broadchurch's David Tennant and Olivia Colman, Top of the Lake's Elizabeth Moss and Peter Mullan, and The Fall's Gillian Anderson. Her co-star in The Fall, Jamie Dornan, is up for the breakthrough prize.
The three dramas also feature in the best writer category, for Top of the Lake's Jane Campion, Broadchurch's Chris Chibnall, and Allan Cubitt, who wrote The Fall.
BBC2 and Channel 4 dominate the nominations for the 40th annual awards, with Channel 4 taking all four nominations in the best single documentary prize.
Among the other programmes nominated are BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing, BBC2's Great British Bake Off and Channel 4's Educating Yorkshire and Gogglebox, which is also in the running for the innovation award where it is up against Netflix and Sky.
BBC4's last biopic, Burton and Taylor, will compete for the best single drama prize, up against Channel 4's Black Mirror and BBC2's The Wipers Times, co-written by Ian Hislop.
The shortlists for the awards' two radio prizes, broadcaster of the year and programme of the year, will be announced next week.
The BPG awards, sponsored by Discovery, are voted for by journalists who write about TV and radio. This year's ceremony will take place at the Theatre Royal in London's Drury Lane on 28 March.
