Sussex Police is welcoming its first direct entry superintendent and fast track constable.
Olivia Carroll, a project officer for the Force and Special Constable in Hastings, will start her police constable initial course on 27 October alongside the next intake of new constable recruits. She will be on an accelerated promotion and development programme to equip her with the skills, knowledge and experience to become an inspector within three years.
Entering directly as superintendent is former Army commander John Lacken. He joins the force on 10 November. John is currently Operations Officer with Amazon and is relocating from Lincolnshire.
The new recruits were among four direct entry and six fast track candidates put forward for a demanding selection process as part of a national recruitment programme by the College of Policing.
Chief Constable Giles York said: "I'm pleased to welcome both Olivia and John and wish them every success on these programmes which will support development in modernising the police force.
"The programme welcomes a wide pool of talent to enter the police service as well as rapidly promoting the very best talent from within the force.
"Olivia and John's fresh perspectives will support development in a police force moving forward and meeting new challenges. They will be given robust support to equip them with the new skills they'll need to support the communities in Sussex."
Commenting on the new recruits, Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne said: "As a board member on the College of Policing, I was invited to observe the interviews for finalist direct entry candidates at the National Assessment Centre in July. I was hugely impressed both with the scenarios provided and the calibre of the candidates.
"This is a wonderful achievement for both John and Olivia and I am looking forward to following their careers with Sussex Police."
