Sussex Police deputy chief constable Olivia Pinkney has been recommended as chief constable of Hampshire Constabulary.

Chief Constable Giles York said: "I am delighted for Olivia who leaves us this month with our heartiest best wishes for the future.

"Whilst we advertise nationally to recruit a permanent deputy chief constable, I'm pleased that Assistant Chief Constable Robin Smith, who has many years' service in Sussex, will act up as temporary deputy chief constable. To ensure a smooth transition, Robin has made personal and professional decisions that also enable me to advertise for a permanent ACC now. This means we will have a new permanent chief officer team at the earliest opportunity.

"I welcome Chief Superintendent Laurence Taylor to the chief officer team as temporary assistant chief constable with responsibility for Local Policing and Public Protection from 24 March.

"The deputy chief constable advertisement is now on the Sussex Police website and the position is open to internal and external candidates. The plan is to advertise for a new ACC on 18 March. As National Police Chiefs' Council lead for the workforce portfolio, I think it is important that this opportunity is advertised to all eligible officers. This will ensure we get the best team to serve the needs of the public and Sussex Police."
