Wild horses couldn't stop the Rolling Stones from being crowned the wealthiest band in Britain and Ireland.

Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood — who have combined fortunes of £630m, up £40m on 2015 — topped the Music Millionaires top 50, released ahead of the Sunday Times Rich List which is due out this weekend.

It was also a beautiful day for U2, who have a joint fortune of £500m, an increase of £69m on the 2015. They were the highest-grossing rock act last year, selling 1.29m tickets worth £66m for 76 concerts.

Music icon David Bowie's tragic passing earlier this year has put his family on this year's list. They have a joint fortune of £90m, based on £70m from his will, their own wealth and royalties from the chart success of Bowie’s music after his death.

The overall list was led by Sir Paul McCartney, who with wife Nancy Shevell, shares a joint fortune of £760m, up £30m on last year. Shevell has a £150m stake in her father’s New England Motor Freight trucking operation.

Adele topped the Young Music Rich List of performers aged 30 and under. The 27-year-old singer is now worth £85m, after the release of her third album 25, which helped her rise to 30th place on Music Millionaires top 50.
