Raissa Reis Wins Sherwood Collins Playwriting Contest Patch Framingham, MA --

Two best friends get drunk one night and wake up wondering if they had sex. The girl and her gay best friend spend the rest of the day trying to figure out what happened the night before, in the original play written by Framingham High School senior Raissa Reis.

"It's not what they think in the end," explained Reis about her 40-minute play which won the 2013 Sherwood Collins Playwriting Contest, sponsored by the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild.

Last month, at the finals of the Massachusetts Drama Festival, Reis' classmates Connor Fallon and Olivia Wiles performed a 10-minute staged reading of the original play written by Reis, before a sold out audience.

Reis, received a scholarship, and this summer her play will be published by
JAC Publishing. She wants to major in communications and minor in film, and is considering attending Emerson College in the fall.

She is one of three seniors in Donna Wresinski's playwriting class, who were honored for their writing skills in the 2013 Sherwood Collins Playwriting Contest.

Since its inception in 1983, the Collins contest has generated 658 student-written plays and several outstanding plays from Framingham High students.

Last year, Framingham High Class of 2012 student Alison Raynor won the contest, with classmates Eleanor Doran and Mackenzie Shay, awarded honorable mentions.

This year, FHS Class of 2013 student Reis won, with classmates Carrie Miller and Hannah Cohen finishing second and third.

To enter the contest, each had to write an original, not-to-exceed 40 minutes, play.

Miller, who is looking to attend the University of Vermont in the fall, wrote a play about a couple titled 18 Months.

Cohen, who plans to attend Rider University and major in theatre performance, wrote a play titled The Reason to the Rhyme.

The original play takes place on Sept 11th (2001) and focuses on two amazing, unexpected events on one day, said Cohen.

"One of which changes the lives of millions and one which changes the lives of two," explained Cohen. Reported by Patch 10 hours ago.
