Patch Marthas Vineyard, MA --Martha's Vineyard Regional High School art students brought home a record number of awards from the prestigious Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards this month. 38 of the 67 pieces submitted in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, graphics and architecture received recognition.

This makes these students eligible for scholarships from art schools across the country. This award is only open to graduating seniors who submit an eight-piece portfolio of artwork (sometimes themed, sometimes showing range). Their pieces will also travel to New York City for the national competition.

Portfolios and individual gold and silver awards will be displayed in a month-long exhibit at the State Transportation Building in downtown Boston starting on March 3, 2013. The Awards Ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the old John Hancock Building in Back Bay.

It is a significant honor for students to have their work nominated for this show, and many have received regional awards. Thousands of pieces of art are produced each year in the art department, and a limited number are selected by the art and design faculty and entered into the competition. This year's significantly large number of awards is a tribute to the Martha's Vineyard community's support of the arts.
