Young Track Stars Dominate Season's First Meet Patch Long Valley, NJ --

Sunny skies set the stage in Hopatcong on Sunday, April 7 for Long Valley Track & Field’s first meet of the season. The team came out strong with a 305:103 win, capturing top spots in many of the day’s events.

The girls dominated the 800m, commanding all three top spots in each age group. The boys also showed their strength, capturing two of the top spots in the 9-10 and 11-12 age groups and second place in the 13-15 age group. Molly Sabo (9-10) and Sarah Bhargaun (11-12) brought home first place finishes with times of 3:23 and 3:03. Luke Lusskin (11-12), finishing in 2:40, and Ava Lusskin (13-15), with a time of 3:02:17, were the fastest runners in the event.

The 13-15 boys dominated the 4 x 100m relay, finishing in a mere 55.3 seconds with Drew Munley, Alec DiLullo, Aidan Carrera and Christian Trimarchi setting the pace for the rest of the teams. The girls also captured the top spots in each age group for the relay. The 13-15 girls had Julia Casteneda, Hope Gough, Briana Harmon and Ava Lusskin leading the way to a strong finish at 1:02:89. The 11-12 girls team of Crystal Robinson, Gabriella Trimarchi and Jenna Datesman finished first with time of 1:07:33, while the 9-10 girls-Kelsey Collester, Maggie Layfield, Molly Sabo and Sarah Datesman- took the top spot with a finish in 1:17:30.

Performing well in the 100m sprint, Rosalie Olsen captured first place for the 9-10 girls, with an impressive time of 17.82, while Mara Stahlhut held onto first for the 13-15 girls, coming in at 15.18. It was a photo finish between two Long Valley runners for the 13-15 boys with Christian Trimarchi holding onto first in 13.66.

In the mile, Luke Lusskin again grabbed the top spot for boys with an impressive 5:58. Julia Casteneda stayed strong with a first place finish for the 13-15 girls in 6:34. The team also captured the top spot in the girls 9-10 with Molly Sabo coming in at 7:57 and Sarah Bhargara crossing the finish line first for the girls 11-12 in 7:12.

The 400m also showcased the team’s strength, capturing four different first place spots. Juliana Agnolet held the position for the 11-12 girls with a time of 1:28:02, with Sarah Datesman in first for the 9-10 girls with a time of 1:34:09. Christian Trimarchi (13-15) and Luke Lusskin (11-12) were the fastest boys in the event, with times of 1:12:49 and 1:12:71, respectively.

Rounding out the day’s events on the track, were Sarah Datesman (9-10; 40:35), James Zoella (11-12; 33:52) and Mara Stahlhut (13-15; 32:26) capturing top spots in the 200m event.

Off the track and onto the field, Taylor Parkinson-Gee had an impressive first place finish in the shot put with 36’ 5 ½”, while Shane Wojcicki also had a strong start to the season, finishing first for the 9-10 boys with 16’ 5 ¼”. Long jumpers Cathleen Cleary (9-10) and Crystal Robinson (11-12) also captured a first place finish, jumping 6’ 9” and 11’ 10” respectively.
