Drama shortlisted in five categories, while BBC makes clean sweep of nominations for single and series/serial prizes

Acclaimed BBC2 drama Parade's End has dominated the nominations for this year's Broadcasting Press Guild awards, shortlisted in no fewer than five categories.

Parade's End stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall are both nominated, as is Sir Tom Stoppard who adapted the novels by Ford Madox Ford, while the show is also up for best drama series/serial.

The ITV documentary which exposed Jimmy Savile and helped plunge the BBC into one of the most serious crises in its history, Exposure: the Other Side of Jimmy Savile, is in the running for best single documentary.

BBC drama is assured two BPG awards, with a clean sweep of nominations in the single and series/serial categories. BBC programmes also have all the nominations in the best actor category.

Parade's End will do battle with fellow BBC2 series Line of Duty for the best drama series prize, along with Last Tango in Halifax and Sherlock, which were both on BBC1.

BBC2's Olympics spoof Twenty Twelve and Armando Iannucci's The Thick of It, which came to an end last year, are both nominated for best entertainment/comedy, alongside Channel 4's Fresh Meat.

The Thick of It stars Peter Capaldi and Roger Allam (who also appeared in The Hour and Parade's End respectively) are both nominated for best actor, along with Cumberbatch and Ben Whishaw (The Hollow Crown: Richard II, The Hour).

Hall will compete with Anna Chancellor (Pramface, The Hour), Olivia Colman (Accused, Twenty Twelve), Sienna Miller, who starred in BBC2's Alfred Hitchcock film The Girl, and Maxine Peake (Silk, Room at the Top) for the best actress prize.

Olympics and Paralympics presenter (among many other things) Clare Balding is in the running for the BPG's breakthrough award, along with Adam Hills, presenter of Channel 4's The Last Leg, and Jack Whitehall, for Fresh Meat and BBC3's Bad Education.

Other nominees for this year's BPG awards include Turner prize-winning artist Grayson Perry, for his Channel 4 series All In the Best Possible Taste, which is competing for best documentary, and Dynamo for his Watch series Magician Impossible in the best multichannel category.

The BPG awards, which are voted for by journalists who write about TV and radio, are sponsored by the Discovery channel and will take place at One Whitehall Place in central London on 14 March.
