Junior cricket round-up from in and around Plymouth This is Plymouth --

UNDER-15s

NINE-year-old Will Scott-Munden looks like he could have a bright future in cricket after impressing for Plympton St Mary's under-15 side in their six-wicket defeat to Plymouth.

Scott-Munden came out at number seven for Plympton and he batted with untroubled authority and correctness for eight not out against two of west Devon's tallest fastest under-15 bowlers.

Then after finishing his innings he returned to bowl four overs of pretty useful leg spin.

But he could not help his side to victory.

St. Mary's had Degg run out first ball by an accurate throw from Fahad Ali in the covers, but they recovered to score 111 for five with a captain's knock of 50 not out by opener Owen Gannon.

Plymouth, though, made short work of that total.

They knocked those runs off in the 17th over.

Another fine captain's innings saw Dan Goodey reach 55 not out after Plymouth had lost Joe Hagen-Burt to a questionable umpire's decision for four and then the ever dangerous Luke Edmonds caught at mid-off for six.

Ali followed next to a first ball duck and it required a hard hitting 27 from Josh Atwill to support Goodey as Plymouth cruised to a six-wicket win in their season opener.

Jacob Caunter was the pick of the Plympton bowlers with three for 13.

Plymstock beat Ivybridge by 64 hours. Plymstock put on 113 for eight after recovering from losing Adam O'Brien to the first ball.

Plymstock looked in trouble when they were 12-4 with some accurate bowling from Gemma Lancaster 2 for 11 and Luke Forward 4 for 30.

But opener Ben Russell (57no) steadied the batting and partnerships with Fraser Cowan 17 and Callum Whitelock nine helped then to 113.

In reply, Ivybridge started steadily and at 33-2 looked to have the measure of some early wayward Plymstock bowling but wickets then fell steadily, and Ivybridge were all out for a total of 49. Wickets were shared between Fraser Cowan 4 for 6 Rob Cunningham 2 for 9 Callum Whitelock 2 for11 and Adam Whitehead 2 for 2.

In a one sided game at Lewdown, the home side ran out with 125-run victory over Tideford.

Lewdown, having won the toss, batted first and reached a total of 153 for 4 with runs shared between T Burns 33, L Horn 29, B Horn 37 and P Ewen 23 (no). In reply, Tideford were dismissed for just 28 runs in the 11th over B Horn 3 for 12 and J Weeks 3 for 1 doing the damage.

UNDER-13

TAVISTOCK claimed a 64-run win over local rivals Whitchurch.

Batting first and after losing their opening batsmen for just one run they finished on 86 runs for six wickets. Callum Worth top scored with 19, while Hunter Strand hit 16 not out.

Whitchurch, with only nine players, were bowled out for 22. Nick Adams took three wickets and Ollie Allsop two.

Yelverton were also winners, beating Plymouth Peverell by 69 runs after winning the toss and choosing to bat.

Pierce Widdecombe made a quickfire 34 before edging it to the wicketkeeper.

After surviving 14 overs, James Casey was caught off the bowling of Rhys Watt by Alfie Hagan-Burt.

Lachlan Fulton (46 no) and Josh Hellings (14 no) saw Yelverton to a useful 166.

In reply, Alfie Hagan-Burt (22) and Oliver Parsons put on 54 for the first wicket.

Parsons batted right through until the last over but fell victim to the bowling of Lachlan Fulton. Plymouth ended their innings on 97.

Cornwood, with Harry Fitzpatrick top scoring with 16, saw off Buckland at home after scoring 108 for seven when they batted first.

James Desforges ended with figures of nine for two off of his three overs.

After losing three quick wickets for just one run, Buckland batted on and made 63-8 Gareth Edwards (13 no).

Pick of Cornwood's bowlers was Dan Skeemer who took three for one off his two overs and Michael Puleston who took two wickets.

Yealmpton visited Plymouth Mount Wise and came away winners by 27 runs.

Batting first Yealmpton posted a total of 93-3, with Alex Thomas (29) and Seb Musgrove (27) top scoring.

Kieran Holloway, Will Martin and Ben Lander took a wicket each for Mount Wise.

Plymouth openers Kieran Holloway (14) and Will Martin started well but two quick wickets from Ben Tuckley (one of which included a great catch from Dan Booy) halted their progress and they ended their innings on 66-4.

Plympton captain James Degg hit an unbeaten 51 as his side beat Ivybridge.

Degg had great support from Olivia Jones (31) and it looked like they were set to make a massive target but they were pegged back by Alfie Turns who took two wickets for eight off his three overs. Plympton ended the innings on 126.

Sam Northmore (24), Alfie Turns (23 no) and Charlotte Milner (26 no) all batted well but Ivybridge finished the innings on 108-3, Josiah

Plymstock returned from their long trip to Lewdown with a win.

Batting first, Plymstock posted a challenging score of 92-4 with fine performances from Tom Third (33) and Alex Thomas (20).

Jacob Brown was the pick of Lewdown's bowlers with 3-18 from his four overs. In reply, Lewdown made a solid start with Leon Horn adding a quickfire 14 before being caught by Rob Cunningham off the bowling of Tom Shears (2-10).

There was a succession of wickets as Cunningham finished with five for 8 off of his four overs. Lewdown were all out for 62. Jacob Brown top scoring on 22 not out.

UNDER-11

CORNWOOD Oaks claimed their first win of the season by beating Plymouth Mount Wise in the A Division.

After losing their opening game, Cornwood put Plymouth into bat.

Plymouth lost early wickets to accurate bowling from James Bowden and Heath Marker. Plymouth started to rebuild their innings with Jack Blanchette scoring a fine 23 runs but it was to be the impressive Alfie Hagan-Burt who came to the wicket with just five overs to go and hit an unbeaten 26 runs as Plymouth finished on 238. Of the Cornwood bowlers, James Bowden 12 for 3 was the pick.

In reply, the Cornwood batsmen played a controlled innings only losing three wickets which eventually saw them coast to victory by finishing on 250 thanks mainly to a total of 44 extras.

Hagan-Burt, however, completed a splendid individual performance in the game with figures of 8 for 2.

Tavistock, with Isaac Staig claiming the league's first hat-trick, kickstarted their own season with a victory over Yealmpton Thunder.

Tavistock started well with Staig claiming 10 for 5.

A great piece of fielding by Louis Peake put Yealmpton into further trouble after the youngster brilliantly hit the stumps with a direct hit run out.

Yealmpton though batted solidly from there on, with Tobin Barker top scoring on 10, as they closed on 247.

When Tavistock batted, Yealmpton got off to a positive start as Callum Green bowled a good opening spell, with figures of 23 for 2.

But a solid middle order performance from Thomas Limb (21) gave Tavistock a safe cushion until the end of the game as they won by 58 runs, finishing on a score of 305.

Buckland Buccaneers got the better of Ivybridge Falcons, inflicting on them their first loss of the season.

Batting first, Ivybridge started well with Abraham Kopparambil hitting an unbeaten 11 runs, but Buckland's Tom McKluskie helped the moorland team gain momentum recording figures of 21 for 2 as the innings finshed on 238.

After the interval, Buckland did not get off to the best of starts as two wickets fell, both by the way of run outs, as the Ivybridge fielders showed good composure in the field.

It would, though, be left to the highly-rated Buckland captain Adam Talbott (13 no) to help his team to victory as Buckland ended just 12 runs ahead on 250.

In the B Division, Cornwood Girls claimed a 19-run victory over Whitchurch.

Whitchurch batted first but found it hard to find the gaps in the outfield as the girls fielded gallantly.

In a rather eventful innings Whitchurch finally closed on 246 after a total of 47 extras were bowled by Cornwood.

In reply, Cornwood looked to set a solid base and the scores remained even until the last few overs when Ciara O'Keefe 6 and Olivia Gibson 5 took the score past the Whitchurch total, eventually finishing on 265 and giving the girls the victory by 19 runs. Reported by This is 7 hours ago.
