Little Olivia to walk out at Old Trafford with Manchester United and Real Madrid stars

ONE is a huge football fan, the other is not that bothered about the beautiful game.
Maddison Dale, ten, will be watching tonight's Champions League clash between Manchester United and Real Madrid with a hint of jealousy when sister Olivia, seven, runs out with some of the world's top footballers.
The children's father Michael Dale, of Beverley, will be watching from the stands at Old Trafford
"There is a hint of jealousy between Olivia and Maddison," he said.
"Maddison plays football and follows football more.
"Olivia knows who some of the players are and is excited but I don't think she really understands what it means and what it will be like.
"When I explained it, she said 'Oh, wow, can I have my hair done'."
Tens of thousands of people will be watching at Old Trafford, with millions more watching the clash on TV.
Eyes will be on Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo returning to his old stomping ground for the first time since his departure.
For Mr Dale, 31, it will be all about his daughter Olivia's performance.
"I am probably more excited than Olivia," said Mr Dale,
"We don't know which player she will walk out with or even from which team.
"My choice would definitely be Ronaldo. I know he doesn't play for Man U but he is still an amazing player."
Mr Dale entered both daughters into the Uefa competition to walk out with a player on to the Old Trafford pitch prior to the game.
"I entered both my daughters into the Uefa competition and got a phone call last month saying Olivia had been picked to walk out with the players," said Mr Dale, who is a Man United fan.
"I couldn't believe it when I got the phone call saying she was going to be a mascot. I'm still on cloud nine."
Following the last 16 first leg, the tie is delicately poised at 1-1.
As well as the prize of reaching the next stage of the Champions League, the match also looks set to see Man U player Ryan Giggs mark his 1,000th career game after he was rested in the 4-0 Premier League victory against Norwich at the weekend.
Olivia, who has been allowed to take the afternoon off at St Mary's Church of England Primary School in Beverley for the match, is not too concerned about walking out on the pitch in front of more than 75,000 fans in what is guaranteed to be an electric atmosphere.
She said: "I'm very excited, but a bit nervous."
Her friends have taken some convincing that she is walking out at the match tonight.
"Some of my friends at school don't believe me, while others said 'wow' when I told them," she said.
"I don't really mind which player I walk out with.
"My sister can't believe that I will be on TV. She is very jealous."
Watching the game in Beverley will be Olivia's mother Nicky, who is a sports rehabilitator for Beverley Rugby Union Club.
She said: "I'm working but I'm hoping I will be able to watch it in the club house and see if I can spot Olivia."
"She has been to watch Hull KR play Hull FC which is a great atmosphere, but this will be completely different.
"I don't think it has really dawned on her, but it will when she gets there. I have tried to show her a few football games to show her what it will be like.
"It was a huge shock when I found out she would be a mascot and I have had parents from school asking me if it is true."
The game kicks off at 7.45pm.
Mr Dale said: "I will be proud to watch my child walk out on the pitch with two of the biggest footballing teams in the world." Reported by This is 17 hours ago.

Concord's Equestrian Team Qualifies for New England Finals

The following was provided on behalf of Verrill Farm's Concord Equestrian Team.
Concord competed in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association Region 2 Finals, held at Volo Farm on Feb. 24. Competition at the Regional level was intense, as only the top two teams would move forward to the Zone 1 Finals.
With such tight margins, teammates and coaches knew that only a small percentage of riders would make the cut. For many, it would be the end of a grueling season that began back in mid-August.
Setting the tone for the day, Jane Chiavelli won the Open over-fences class, putting Concord swiftly on the leader board. Chloe Howes added solid points with her second place win in Intermediate fences along with freshman Colleen McGuinness who also earned a second place in Novice fences. Skylar Laakso hurdled CET up the leaderboard with her first place win in Open Flat. Emma Parker earned another second place Intermediate Flat. Both Olivia Chen and Lee Bernstein added to the team's points placing fifth and second, respectively.
Beating the second place team by a wide margin of 16 points, CET solidly progressed to the IEA Zone 1 New England Finals.
Seven CET riders qualified for Zone 1 finals:
· Skylar Laakso - Open Flat
· Chloe Howes - Open Flat and Intermediate Fences
· Emma Parker - Intermediate Fences
· Megan Sass - Intermediate Flat
· Olivia Chen - Novice Fences
· Tessa James - Novice Fences
· Lee Bernstein - Beginner Flat.
Grace Sambrook was a shining star at the middle school level and also earned a spot in Zone finals.
Mount Holyoke College will host the next level of competition March 9 and 10. The top riders from New England will compete for the coveted honor of a spot in the National IEA Finals held in Syracuse at the end of April. Reported by Patch 17 hours ago.

Broadchurch welcomes flock of almost 7 million | TV ratings – 4 March
ITV's new crime drama, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, earns 28.1% share to eclipse BBC1 rival Mayday
ITV's new crime drama Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, began with nearly 7 million viewers on Monday, eclipsing its BBC1 rival Mayday.
Broadchurch, about an 11-year-old boy who is found dead at the bottom of a cliff, was watched by an average of 6.8 million viewers, a 28.1% share, between 9pm and 10pm. It was 26% up on ITV's slot average over the last three months.
Mayday – which launched on BBC1 on Sunday with 6.2 million viewers and a 24.7% share, getting the better of ITV's Mr Selfridge – saw its audience tumble by nearly 2 million viewers to 4.3 million (17.9%) against stiffer opposition from Broadchurch.
The story of a missing teenage girl, Mayday will air on five successive nights on BBC1, ending on Thursday. Broadchurch, more conventionally scheduled, will air on Monday nights for the duration of its eight-part run.
Coincidentally, both dramas are made by independent production company Kudos, previously responsible for Spooks and Life on Mars.
*Bang Go the Superscrimpers*
BBC1's science show Bang Goes the Theory, featuring former Tomorrow's World presenter Maggie Philbin, returned with 4 million viewers, a 16.9% share, between 7.30pm and 8pm.
It was in the toughest of slots, up against ITV's Coronation Street, watched by 9.4 million (39.3%). The soap returned at 8.30pm for a second helping with 8.7 million viewers, a 34.4% share.
Channel 4's Superscrimpers returned for a new run at 8.30pm with 1.4 million viewers, a 5.5% share. It lost out to BBC2's Food and Drink, watched by 1.6 million viewers (6.2%) including 45,000 on the BBC HD channel.
*ITV misses BBC2 trick – leaves "great" out of "Great Britain"*
Earlier, Adrian Edmondson returned to ITV with 30-part travelogue Ade in Britain, watched by 1.1 million viewers (11.5%), down 24% on the slot average over the last three months.
BBC2's The Great British Winter, the channel's latest attempt to shoehorn the words "Great British" into its schedule, began with 1.1 million viewers, a 5.1% share, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, down 29.5% on the slot average.
It was followed, with a weary sense of inevitably, by Great British Menu, with 1.7 million viewers (7%) between 7.30pm and 8pm.
*What happened next?*
BBC1's Question of Sport celebrated its 1,000th edition with more than 4 million viewers. An average of 4.2 million people, a 16.5% share, saw the return of former captains including Bill Beaumont and Willie Carson to the sporting quiz which began in 1968.

Dorking fathers discover well between gardens

BUILDING a new fence to maintain the divide with your next-door neighbour's garden can be a touchy subject.
But when two do-it-yourself Dorking fathers joined forces to construct a new boundary on Saturday, they were united by a slice of history.
Tim Loder and Christian Lawson, of Horsham Road, were digging a hole for a new fence post when they struck a concrete slab.
The pair then removed the slab which, they say, revealed a 6ft deep Victorian well.
Mr Loder, 39, whose cottage was built in 1865, said: "It was a complete surprise.
"My eight-year-old son Angus was here on the day and he couldn't believe it.
"He was shocked and wanted to climb into it but we said no because it was too deep.
"Our wives were shocked too and couldn't believe what we found.
"We've both been here for five years but we had no idea this was here."
Mr Loder, who lives with wife Ann, Angus, and 10-year-old daughter Olivia, said they now need to fill the well to finish off the new fence.
But he added if the well was in the middle of one of their gardens, they would have tapped into the water supply to soak their vegetables.
"It would have been a free water service that we could have used for the garden," he said.
After looking online, Mr Loder said other people who have discovered wells had benefited from free drinking water and had also avoided hosepipe bans.
But Dorking Local History Group's Kathy Atherton warned the two husbands to avoid drinking the water.
The Mid Holmwood historian said: "My own garden has a well between my house and my next-door neighbours. When we discovered it, it was full of rats. I wouldn't go testing it."
She added: "It isn't rare to find these wells, they're all over the place.
"It was quite common if there was no running water nearby." Reported by This is 4 hours ago.

New band of the day: Olivia Sebastianelli (No 1,466)
She loves Costello and sings songs about revenge, guilt, sorrow and loss. Just don't get her started on the Brit school
*Hometown*: London.
*The lineup*: Olivia Sebastianelli (vocals, guitar).
*The background*: Olivia Sebastianelli is an Italian-English 19-year-old from south London enamoured of Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde and influenced by everyone from Alison Krauss to Alice in Chains. She's a little bit pop, a little bit – well, not grunge exactly, but there is more to her than winsome acoustica. She might be a young woman wielding a guitar but she doesn't consider herself a singer-songwriter; her sound is fuller and more electric than that suggests. She prefers the word "storyteller", and winces at the term "performer"– she left a major record company recently after they tried to get her to record her every waking move with a camera. She doesn't do video diaries. She doesn't fit in that world, or belong to that generation. She hates iPods and loves vinyl, and her hero is Elvis Costello. Her favourite song of his is Alison, which she believes is about a prostitute. She loves it so much she entered a competition especially so she could sing a version of it. At school, when she was 11. She won.
Revenge and guilt are the only emotions she understands. And loss, and regret. Her best song, Rose of Stone, is haunted by memories of being taunted and bullied at school, where she was the only Rage Against the Machine fan in a class full of Spice Girls and Britney kids. One of her "friends" threw herself down some stairs, just so she could blame Olivia. "To have that constantly for years really hurts," she says. "You start to wonder if there is something wrong with you." Surprisingly, she has yet to write a song about the perfect murder, but she has written one about wannabe starlets called B-Movie (ring any bells?), one about the suffering endured by immigrants, and another about the Arab spring. She doesn't believe there has been a decent protest song since punk. She also recently got into a Twitter-fight with Pixie Lott about the value or otherwise of the Brit school and fame academies in general. She won that as well.

The daughter of a businesswoman and a tattooed hot-rod enthusiast, Sebastianelli is as characterful as you could want. Some of that character comes across in her music. We haven't yet heard her 12-track album (told you she was old school) but we do have three tracks that promise good things. They've been produced by Dan "Enter Shikari" Weller and we're not alone in liking them. Ray Davies of the Kinks saw her live and came backstage expressly to tell her he thought her songs, sung in a rich, huskily emotive voice that belies her years, were "hauntingly beautiful". Rose of Stone is the one, though, the one where she harmonises with herself like a doleful choir and is marked by intimations of cold creeping terror. The guitar figure is literally dread-ful – not that it's bad but that it contains portents of unpleasantness, "tiny sharp reminders" of what was and might be. It comes accompanied by a video filmed in the chapel of the school where she was so cruelly mistreated by her peers. Add self-torment to that list of emotions she understands. Sunset presents another side of Olivia Sebastianelli: this time, the folkish English rose. Only watch out for the thorns. Despite the Day opens with strummed acoustic chords that you just know are going to explode into grungy electric ones – not for nothing has she been described as the missing link between Stevie Nicks and Dave Grohl. So she's not quite the female Costello - that paradigm has yet to be realised. But we still reckon she'd look great in a suit and glasses hunched over a tripod.

*Thursday's new band*: Casual Sex. Reported by guardian.co.uk 1 day ago.

Olivia Chow says she’s ‘considering’ a run for Toronto mayor

In a slight shift from her usual talking points on the subject, Chow said Wednesday she is “considering it” while on the George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight show on CBC.
The NDP MP for Trinity-Spadina was on the show to discuss the new Jack Layton biopic, but Stroumboulopoulos snuck in a question about her possible run for mayor.
“This is the big talk,” he said, “at some point that this is what you’re going to do.”
Chow’s response rehashed her go-to lines about “listening” to people.
“I love this city. I love to come home to Toronto, but what I'm going to be doing, I don't know yet. I'm listening to people's advice.
“There are a lot of issues we need to tackle, and I'll listen very carefully,” she said, adding maybe she’ll even ask Stroumboulopoulos for advice. “There are a lot of issues we need to tackle and I’ll listen very carefully.”
The two shared some laughs, and Chow continued.
“Jack wanted to be a mayor, maybe I want to be a mayor, too, but maybe not. Perhaps I won’t be able to do it.”
Stroumboulopoulos saw his chance to jump in and asked: “But you’re open to it?”
“I am considering it,” she replied. Stroumboulopoulos paused, looked back at his audience and they began to applaud her answer. Reported by Toronto Star 1 day ago.
