Olivia Wilde: Divorce 'Brought Me To The Great Love Of My Life'

Olivia Wilde has said that getting married young -- at 19 -- "stunted her growth.""I knew the only way I was going to grow the f**k up was to learn to take care of myself," she told Amanda de Cadenet of her split from Italian prince and filmmaker Tao Ruspoli in a June 2012 interview.

And now Wilde further opens up about her 2011 divorce, in Marie Claire's April cover story.

“I had grown up with Tao; we had just drifted," she explains. "I felt I had something to prove. If you fall off a horse, you get back up. I am not a quitter. I hung on for as long as possible, until it was more hurtful to stay…I’m so grateful for the pain and the heartbreak. It gave me the courage to leave and brought me to the great love of my life.”

That love, of course, is current fiance Jason Sudeikis.

Wilde tells Marie Claire, upon meeting Sudeikis at the 2011 finale of "Saturday Night Live,"“I was just learning to be by myself. We were both seeing people but were single. He seemed to really see me, see through the bullshit. He said very few words and couldn’t keep eye contact. He was so handsome, and he could dance.”

When the pair had their first date six months later, Wilde recalls, “I thought, ‘He won’t be interested in me; I’m not a contender.’ He was so cool, so funny – I was such a fan of his and had always fancied his speed and his intelligence. He’s a brilliant actor with a brain like lightning…I felt like fresh meat at the market…I thought, ‘I’m not beautiful enough or his type.’ I couldn’t wait to sit down and hear him talk. On our first date, in New York City, we closed the restaurant down at 2 a.m.! He didn’t kiss me, and I was madly in love. I was overwhelmed.”

Wilde, 29, and Sudeikis, 37, confirmed the news of their engagement in January.

Wilde has never been shy about discussing her connection with her beau. At a Glamour event in October, Wilde announced that she had fallen “blissfully, hopefully, wildly in love,” revealing that she and Sudeikis "have sex like Kenyan marathon runners.”

The American Plan: Ustinov Studio, Bath

This is Bath -- The American Plan
Ustinov Studio, Bath
Taut, complex and darkly entertaining – that's Richard Greenberg's play about the New York Jewish community on holiday in the Catskills in 1959.
Think Woody Allen cracking Jewish jokes at the equivalent of Pontins or Butlins while offering up a mordantly pessimistic view of relationships and the nature of truth and you get the flavour.
The play centres round a mother and daughter who each year rent a home across the lake from one of the big resorts.
Here the families escape the summer heat of the city to socialise, to indulge themselves and to eat. The American Plan was the equivalent of an English hotel's full board.
The mother Eva is controlling and the daughter Lili is psychologically unstable. Enter a handsome young beau, Nick, who swims across the lake and a romance with Lili ensues – or does it? And is the mother trying to buy him off or put him off?
Lili is known for telling lies and making up stories, but she is not the only one. No one in this play tells the truth, not Eva who manipulates, not Nick who is not what he seems, and not Gil who turns up with an agenda of his own.
The only character who remains constant is the Afro-American maid Olivia (Dona Croll) who, Sphinx-like, tells no one her dreams and who, like Penelope in Homer's Odyssey, knits but no end product ever appears.
Performances in this production directed by David Grindley are superb, and the relationships between each of the characters are utterly convincing if constantly perplexing.
Central to it all is Diana Quick's compelling Eva, around whose droll pronouncements and machinations the action revolves.
Emily Taaffe perfectly captures the impetuous, slightly hysterical Lili who seduces Nick, played by a believable Luke Allen-Gale. Mark Edel-Hunt is excellent as Gil who offers another thread to the plot that alters our view yet again of the nature of love.
The American Plan is funny, intricate, clever (spot the literary references) and while it leaves you full of uncertainty as to the moral and emotional outcome it is a wholly satisfying theatrical experience.
This is a fine start to Ustinov artistic director Laurence Boswell's American season.

Junior showtime with the Babes This is Exeter --

THE members of Uffculme Amateur Dramatics Society took to the boards again when they staged their 35th pantomime, Babes in the Wood.

A new script brought more risque laughs and pop-culture references to the show, directed and produced by Yvette Cottrell.

One of UADS' funniest pantomimes to date, Babes in the Wood let the group show off some of its best talent. Scott Stevens had the audience in stitches as the dame, Nurse Molly Coddle, his last role at UADS before he heads to university. He was joined by Will Bodger, playing it camp again as Dave the Knave, and Jack Maddicks' evil Sheriff of Nottingham, Sir Simon Scowl. All three were impressively enthusiastic; there was never a dull moment. It was refreshing to see a cast made up almost entirely of junior members, including Chris Garner and Olivia Emery as the very cute babes. Some of the more seasoned members took on smaller roles, but never failed to impress, such as Hannah Tucker (whose absent-minded fairy narrator made us jump every time!) and Ella Peers as Robin Hood. As ever, UADS' musical numbers were a highlight. Accompanied by Stephanie Howard on piano and Richard Stevens on drums, we enjoyed classics such as There's No Business Like Show Business and some new additions. The talented Lizzy Clarke (Maid Marion) wowed the audience with her rendition of On My Own, from Les Miserables. Other impressive performances included Lily Andrews and Molly Turner, excellent as gormless henchmen Grabbitt and Scarper, and Roshan Chopra, whose northern accent as Friar Tuck went down very well with certain members of the audience! Audience participation brought singalongs, shout-outs and even the occasional egg being thrown. The show was as dazzling as usual: the backstage crew, and Edd Phillips' set designs never fail to impress. UADS make us laugh year after year, and Yvette Cottrell has led her team of young stars-in-the-making to success once again. Reported by This is 24 minutes ago.
