Red Carpet Confidential: Olivia Wilde Recalls Her Prom Night Just because she’s a famous movie star now doesn’t mean *Olivia Wilde* wasn’t an average American teenager.

Long before she became engaged to Saturday Night Live star *Jason Sudeikis*, the actress, 29, strapped on a corsage of her own at prom.

“Ours was a very conservative prom,” she says in NYC today during the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of her Hurricane Sandy documentary, The Rider and The Storm, which she executive produced. “I went to boarding school. I think it was on a boat, so that no one could jump—[laughs]—so that no one could leave.”

She realizes not everyone has fond memories of the annual rite of passage.

“I was recently in Kansas City, and I met a kid who wasn’t allowed to go to his prom because he’s gay,” she says. “He wasn’t allowed to bring his boyfriend. It sickened me. When I think of prom now, I think of him.  I think that’s ridiculous. Hopefully prom, for everyone this year, is about love.”

Olivia Newton-John has revealed that her sister is battling cancer and the "Grease" star will postpone her planned Las Vegas residency to be with her family.

"Entertainment Tonight" reported Monday that Newton-John's older sister, Rona, has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

"As a cancer 'thriver' myself, as many people are, I am very aware of the importance of love, support and family during this journey she is about to begin," the 64-year-old, who was diagnosed with breast cancer more than 20 years ago, told "ET.""I want to thank everyone in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time."

The Australian pop star was set to kick off a mini-residency at the Flamingo in Las Vegas, substituting for Donny & Marie Osmond during the duo's away dates, according to The Las Vegas Sun. With her sister's diagnosis, Newton-John will put off the Vegas stint.

"In light of this news, I have decided to postpone my forthcoming Las Vegas residency to spend time with her and our family," she said in a statement obtained by the Vegas Sun.

Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 after doctors discovered a tumor, People magazine notes. Since then, she has been a spokesperson for cancer awareness and is the proud founder of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre in Australia.

Newton-John revealed she found the strength to battle the illness with the help of her loved ones.

"My family and friends were definitely the key to my recovery," she told Everyday Health in 2008. "One thing that I do suggest is that anyone dealing with a life-threatening illness like cancer choose a point person for people to call to find out how you are doing — a sister, brother, mother, father, daughter, son, or close friend. Picking someone close to you to report the news about your health to everyone else frees up time — time you need to heal and become well." Reported by Huffington Post 2 days ago.

Olivia Wilde Reveals Her Wedding Dress Designer

If you're lucky enough to score an invitation to Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis' wedding, be sure your passport is up to date.

Wilde joked to ABC News that she and Sudeikis think they should get married in Uganda, where their friends, filmmakers David Darg and Bryn Mooser, will be shooting their next movie.

"In order to have them at the wedding, I’m going to have to follow them where they go,” Wilde told ABC News Tuesday.

Another possibility? Haiti, where Wilde does volunteer work. But she admitted that she, Sudeikis and her mother would be the only people who would want to go to Haiti for a wedding.

“No one would show up!’” Wilde said. “[Also], when I’m in Haiti, within three seconds of getting off the plane I am red-faced, usually broken out and really sweaty. It would be a red-face, acne wedding.”

While she hasn't settled on a location or a date, Wilde said Monique Lhuillier will design her gown and bridesmaids' dresses. She also revealed that her engagement ring is from the 1920s -- and that she prefers wearing vintage diamonds.

“I think when buying stones, enough of them exist in the world, so there’s no reason to be buying new diamonds," she said.

The couple met at the "Saturday Night Live" finale in 2011 and began dating six months later. They confirmed their engagement in January. According to reports, Wilde has previously said that she might get married in upstate New York.

This is Nottingham --

A 22-YEAR-OLD says her apprenticeship changed her life.

Olivia Herman decided as a teenager she wanted to look after children but wasn't sure how to go about it.

She then found out about a pre-apprenticeship programme with Access Training East Midlands.

The programme prepares young people for apprenticeships and found Olivia a role at Angels by Day in Bulwell.

She completed an advanced apprenticeship in childcare, overseen by Access Training.

Olivia, of Bulwell, said: "I was absolutely delighted when I was successful.

"I have been at Access Training for almost two years and I have achieved a number of qualifications including paediatric and workplace first aid."

Olivia is now a childcare tutor herself.

She added: "I still can't believe that from being a shy 16-year-old I can now stand in front of a group of learners and teach them skills to move them forward in life."

The Post is running its apprentice drive – to create 300 apprentice roles in 100 days – with the Derbyshire and Notts Chamber of Commerce, the city council, the National Apprenticeship Service and the Nottinghamshire City and County Employment and Skills Board. Reported by This is 21 hours ago.

Leading Anti-Poverty Center Announces New Executive Director

CLASP (the Center for Law and Social Policy), one of the nation's leading voices for low-income families, has appointed Olivia Golden, Ph.D. as its next executive director. She will succeed Alan Houseman, who has served in the position since 1981.

(PRWEB) April 24, 2013

Today, CLASP (the Center for Law and Social Policy) announced the appointment of Olivia Golden, Ph.D. as its next executive director. She will succeed Alan Houseman, who has served in the position since 1981. Houseman will retire at the end of 2013.

“Olivia Golden is absolutely the right person to lead CLASP at this important juncture in the course of both our organization and this country,” said Joe Onek, CLASP’s board chair, principal at The Raben Group, and former CLASP executive director. “From its roots as a pioneering public interest law firm, CLASP has become the leading voice and expert on national policy for low-income people. Olivia’s leadership will be an energizing and natural transition for us.”

Founded in 1969, CLASP is a prominent national organization dedicated to improving the prospects of low-income children, families and individuals through better public policy and more effective service delivery.

Dr. Golden has an impressive track record of delivering results for low-income children and families and joins CLASP after a career that has included roles in child and family policy in the nonprofit sector and at all levels of government. During the eight years that she served in senior executive roles at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) during the Clinton Administration, Golden was a key player in designing and implementing Early Head Start, tripling the level of funding for child care, and implementing landmark welfare reform.

Under her leadership, the D.C. Children and Family Services Agency emerged from federal court receivership and markedly improved the lives of children in the District. Currently an Institute fellow at the Urban Institute, she conducts research and directs foundation-supported initiatives on families’ economic security and children’s well-being, and has led creative initiatives on low-income working families, the impact of federal health and social welfare programs in states, and the implications of health reform for low-income children. She will begin as executive director at CLASP in August.

“I am honored by this extraordinary opportunity to take the reins of CLASP,” Golden said. “Through the hard work of Alan, the Board, and the staff, CLASP has established itself as one of the nation’s most important voices for low-income children, families, and individuals. I look forward to leading it at a time when the stakes are as high as they have ever been for low-income families.”

Golden celebrates CLASP’s unique strengths, including “its two-generational focus on both children’s well-being and their parents’ access to employment, education, and training; and the capacity of its experts to be effective in a wide range of roles – as innovators who develop new policies, thoughtful advocates on the Hill and in the states, and trusted providers of technical assistance.”

Golden served in two presidentially appointed positions within HHS, as New York's director of state operations, in various roles for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as director of the Child and Family Services Agency of the District of Columbia, and as an advocate with the Children’s Defense Fund. She has written two books: Reforming Child Welfare (2009) and Poor Children and Welfare Reform (1992). She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, where she also earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in public policy from the Kennedy School of Government.

Onek concluded that CLASP is “delighted Alan will remain with us until the end of 2013, and we look forward later this year to celebrating and paying tribute to his decades-long career and the innumerable ways in which he has served the interests of low-income people.”
