Just Released: Top 2012 Baby Names in Pennsylvania
Patch Cranberry, PA --
Mason and Emma are the most popular baby names in Pennsylvania for 2012, according to Social Security data.
Here are the top 10 in Pennsylvania:
Boys: 1. Mason
2. Liam
3. Jacob
4. Michael
5. Noah
6. Ryan
7. Ethan
8. Logan
9. Benjamin
10. John
Girls: 1. Emma
2. Sophia
3. Ava
4. Olivia
5. Isabella
6. Madison
7. Abigail
8. Emily
9. Mia
10. Aubrey
In all of America, Jacob and Sophia are repeat champions. It's the 14th year in a row Jacob tops the list for boys and the second year for Sophia.
Here are the top 10 boys and girls names in America for 2012:
Boys: 1. Jacob
2. Mason
3. Ethan
4. Noah
5. William
6. Liam
7. Jayden
8. Michael
9. Alexander
10. Aiden
Girls: 1. Sophia
2. Emma
3. Isabella
4. Olivia
5. Ava
6. Emily
7. Abigail
8. Mia
9. Madison
10. Elizabeth
There is a new couple in the top 10 this year—Elizabeth and Liam replace Chloe and Daniel. Elizabeth has been here before, but this is the first time Liam breaks into the top 10.
Perhaps Liam’s new found success can be attributed to Liam Neeson’s recent major roles in Battleship and the popular Taken, The Chronicles of Narnia and Clash of the Titans franchises.
This year’s winners for biggest jump in popularity in the Top 500 in America are Major and Arya.
The fastest riser on the girls’ list may have been influenced by the popular cable TV series “Game of Thrones.” Arya is the daughter of a leader of one of the Seven Kingdoms. She also is an expert sword fighter, so doubt her influence on the popular names list at your own risk.
For the boys, parents may associate Major with the military title. You also might trace Major’s increase in popularity to a cable TV show. “Home by Novogratz” is a popular home design show featuring Major Novogratz, the youngest son of designers Robert and Cortney.
The second fastest riser for boys was Gael, and for girls, Perla. Both names most likely are on the rise due to the increase in the Spanish-speaking population in the United States. Perla is the Latinized version of Pearl and is popular among Hispanic-Americans. Gael’s popularity could be tied to Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal. Reported by Patch 4 hours ago.

Olivia Munn Plays With Water Guns In Her Bikini
Olivia Munn flaunts her incredibly toned body in the new issue of Esquire magazine, slipping into several bikinis while revealing she's all about "embracing her sexuality."
The 32-year-old "Newsroom" star admits that although some people -- ahem, we're talking about you, Zach Galifianakis -- think attractive individuals can't be funny, she believes otherwise.
"I believe it was Galifianakis who was saying something like, 'People who are attractive can't be funny, because funny comes from pain.' And it's interesting, because in my life, I moved around a lot, and I had a really abusive stepfather. I have a great stepfather now, but my first stepfather was, for fourteen years, really horrible," she explains to Esquire, continuing, "And you move around a lot and you're constantly the new kid, because you're a military family. Oklahoma, Utah, Japan, different parts of Japan -- and humor and being self-deprecating and sarcastic was the thing that could break ice in every situation."
"And so it's a very antiquated idea to think that you can't be pretty and smart and funny," adds Munn, who was born in Oklahoma and raised on a military base in Japan before picking up her life and relocating year after year.
But all that moving around didn't bother Munn, who thinks her nomadic life gave her a certain edge. The Chinese, German and Irish model-turned-actress never thinks she needs to change who she is to further her career.
"It's interesting, because different people will tell me, 'Well, you're not, you shouldn't, you don't have to do this anymore,'" Munn says of leaving behind her modeling days for starring roles in film and on television. "But I don't think that there is anything wrong with it, and it actually bothers me ..."
"Like when I was on 'The Daily Show' and there was this Web site that wanted to criticize me, saying, 'How could she be on the cover of Maxim and be on this smart show?' So I did the cover of Maxim again," Munn continues, "Because, you know what? Don't you want for your own daughters to grow up and be smart and funny and beautiful and embrace their sexuality?"
You go girl.

Algonquin News: Harbinger Gets Big Award, Track Champs and Go the Distance
Patch Northborough, MA --
Information courtesy of Algonquin Principal Tom Mead
Here is a list of the Spring *There It Is* Geography winners. 12^th grade first place winners: Adam Klein and Katie Pyne. 12^th grade second place winners: Brennan Burns and Joe Grieco. 10^th grade first place winners: Sean O’Neil and Nate Chen. 10^th grade second place winners: Jonathan Cahill and Alex Sabel. Katie Salt hosts this semiannual event.
At the New England Scholastic Press Association’s (NESPA) yearly conference at Boston University on May 3, *The Harbinger* was awarded second place in the “All New England” category for large school newspapers. All of the issues of the last year were evaluated for content, writing, photography, and design, and, for the first time in a long time, our student newspaper placed as one of the top scholastic papers in New England. The Harbinger was the highest placing Massachusetts newspaper. This year’s editorial board was led by Editors-in-Chief Maggie Kiley and David Azzariti along with Managing Editor Meaghan Winter.
The following students earned individual special achievement awards: Sports Photo: Jordan McStay, junior; Feature Photo: Jes Sheldon, senior; Bylined Column: Meaghan Winter, senior; Informational Graphic: Olivia Giorlandino, junior; Informational Graphic: Olivia Giorlandino & Sam Wheeler, juniors; News Story: Maggie Kiley, senior; Sports Story: Dan Fishbein, sophomore; Cartoon: Garrett Maglio, sophomore.
Members of *The Harbinger* staff attended workshops on writing, interviewing, design, and social media at the one-day conference. Adviser Lindsay Coppens presented on The Power of Infographics and Using the Maestro Process.
*Algonquin Girls Track* is the Class A district champion, and the first Algonquin district champions in any sport for the year.
Christine Thompson, Biotechnology instructor, was awarded the NEF Grant for Vernier LabQuest and SpectroVis in the amount of $800 for next year.
The Northborough/Southborough Special Education Parents Advisory Council (*NSPAC*) will hold its final meeting of the year on June 4 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the ARHS Library for elections and planning.
Several members of the Algonquin Community were honored at NSPAC’s annual Go the Distance Awards Night on April 30. Honorees included Lorraine Zanini, Sherry Nolan-Hess, Felecia Rutigliano, Lisa Connery, Linda Pardee, Marie Porteus, John Barry, Mike Mocerino, Courtney Balacco and Jason Lessard.
Five Algonquin students recently attended the *DECA International Development Conference* in Anaheim, CA, to compete against 15,000 other students from around the world. Standouts include Junior Peter Scorzelli who received a medal for top test score in his event and sophomore Nathan Ding who received 2 medals: one for top test score and one for event finalist in his event.
*The Robotics Team* traveled to the FIRST Robotics International Championship in St. Louis, Missouri in late April (24-27). The team placed 17th in their division of 100 teams. The next competition for the team is the Battlecry at WPI. George Clarke is the school’s advisor for the Robotics Team.
On Wednesday, May 15, just before this week’s Junior Prom, juniors Danielle Fucci, Meagan Hermanspan, Devon Ryan, and freshmen Darby Foster, Isabelle Seppa, and Mike Tascione*,* acting as Peer Leaders, distributed to each Junior a letter written by a Northborough or Southborough 5^th grade student, reminding them not to drink and drive on the night of their prom. A request was made to each elementary school in the district to have their 5^th grade students, who have completed the DARE program this year, create very poignant post cards and letters pleading with our students to stay alcohol/drug free, thus allowing them to have a memorable prom night.
An added bonus this year was that a Southborough 5^th grade teacher made copies of their students’ letters and hung on to them for 6 years, so that those juniors could receive their own letters from themselves. This simple but powerful project was initiated as a way to have another tool that encouraged our students to stay safe and drug free. Jean Fedak advises the Peer Leaders.
The *Community Action Program* (CAP) and the *Algonquin Chamber Choir* performed May 14 for the Community Dinner/Hawaiian Luau at the Northborough Senior Center. Students helped to cook and serve the meal, provided music, and made presentations to the seniors and their guests. The Chamber Choir will perform for the Memorial Day ceremonies in Northborough, and the Camerata Singers will perform for the Memorial Day ceremonies in Southborough. Eileen Palmer and Jason Lessard advise the CAP program, and Kathrine Waters is the choral director. Reported by Patch 2 days ago.

Manasquan Prepares For Beach Opening
Patch Manasquan-Belmar, NJ --
The ceremony will be held rain or shine on Thursday at the Manasquan inlet. It is scheduled to start at 4:45 p.m. followed by a kickoff party at Leggett's Sand Bar at 5 p.m.
Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno is expected to attend.
Other festivities planned for that day include a band on Manasquan's main beach at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks along the North end of the beach around 9 p.m..
This final restoration update before the ceremony takes place was presented to city council members at Monday's meeting.
The list of amenities that are either complete or will be completed this week are as followed:
Bathrooms:
· Ocean Avenue - Substantially complete.
· Inlet - To be completed by May 22^.
· Brielle Avenue - Receiving eight portable bathrooms by May 23, two of which will be handicap accessible.
Parking:
· Second, Third and Fourth Avenue parking lots are to be stripped this week, weather permitting.
· The front of the Pompano parking lot is ready for use. However, the debris removal from the back of the parking lot is still ongoing.
It was also reported that all beach fencing is complete as well as walkways leading onto the beach.
Other beach amenities such as benches, showers, lockers, bike racks, sheds and lifeguard stands are also set to be ready for Memorial Day weekend, council members say.
Beachgoers at Sea Watch beach in Manasquan will also have new food amenities to indulge in this summer.
Surf and Turf, a self contained mobile concession stand, is set to operate along the beach from Memorial Day to one week after Labor Day.
Their menu items include summer staples such as hamburgers and hotdogs as well as classic novelty foods such as lobster rolls.
Sea Watch Beach will also be home to a new playground thanks to the joint efforts of the non-profit organization SquanStrong and NJFMBA's Sandy Ground, "Where Angels Play" playground project.
The Sandy Ground project is in the process of building 26 playgrounds along the East Coast in honor of the 26 children killed in the Newtown tragedy.
Each playground is dedicated to one specific child who lost their life in the tragedy and is solely designed around the personality of that child as described by their family, council members say.
The playground set to be built in Manasquan will be nautically themed in honor of Olivia Engle.
NJFMBA president Bill Lavin presented a plan for the playground to the council members at last nigh'ts meeting and hopes to have the dedication ceremony held on Olivia's birthday, July 17.
He said he would like to involve the local community and would also like to have fireboats along the ocean during the dedication ceremony.
Without hesitation, Mayor George Dempsey offered Lavin access to Manasquan's fire boats for the ceremony.
Manasquan resident Mary Ryan was visibly touched by the project during Mr. Lavin's presentation.
“I am just so grateful that the children are going to have the opportunity to have a playground again on the beach and I think it is really wonderful that we are doing it in the context of remembering children who lost their lives at very tender age," said Ryan. Reported by Patch 2 days ago.

Olivia to host Edie Windsor, Billie Jean King & Other Special Guests on Virgin Isles New Year's Eve Cruise
Edie Windsor, Billie Jean King, Col. Grethe Cammermeyer, Cris Williamson and Tammy Smith will join Olivia, the travel company for lesbians, on the company’s 40th Anniversary Virgin Isles New Year’s Eve Cruise (December 28-January 4, 2014).
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 22, 2013
Edie Windsor, Billie Jean King, Col. Grethe Cammermeyer, Cris Williamson and Tammy Smith will join Olivia, the travel company for lesbians, on the company’s 40th Anniversary Virgin Isles New Year’s Eve Cruise (December 28-January 4, 2014). Olivia brings together community legends and extraordinary talent onboard their trips and is pleased to have these true heroes onboard to celebrate Olivia’s 40th anniversary and usher in the new year.
“Olivia has always been a company with a social mission, and as such we seek to honor and celebrate our collective history on our trips; in keeping with this, we have brought together these amazing women who have worked for changes that directly benefitted women and the LGBT community over the past five decades. To have women of such caliber onboard, sharing our 40th anniversary, is an incredible honor,” said Judy Dlugacz, Olivia’s President and Founder.
“Marriage equality, sports, military, music, civil rights—there is almost no area of society that these women have not impacted and changed for the better. We owe them a collective debt of thanks. They care deeply about the women’s community, and are such incredible forces for social change,” said Jill Cruse, Olivia’s Vice President of Guest Experience and Strategic Partnerships. “It is especially fitting that they are on an Olivia trip, as our founder, Judy Dlugacz, has also been there all along, fighting for a place at the table for women and for lesbians, first through Olivia Records and now through vacations that allow women to travel in an out and free manner and to give back to the communities they visit. She is another strong woman who is shaping the future of LGBT rights globally.”
About the special guests:
Edie Windsor is one of today’s most relevant voices in the battle for marriage equality and LGBT civil rights. The 83 year-old icon from NY was thrust into the national spotlight when she sued the U.S. in 2010 after she was forced to pay $363,000 in federal taxes on the estate of her wife, Thea Spyer. Her case, U.S. vs. Windsor, is currently before the U.S. Supreme Court and, should the court rule in her favor, the groundbreaking decision will assist in tearing down portions of DOMA and furthering LGBT civil rights.
Olivia’s history with Edie began with the screening of her 2009 award winning documentary, Edie and Thea: A Very Long Engagement, aboard one of Olivia’s Alaska Cruises. This award- winning documentary chronicled Edie and Thea’s 40-plus year relationship and subsequent marriage. Olivia was also honored to have Edie share in Olivia’s 40th Anniversary Cruise earlier this year.
Upon being asked to travel with Olivia again, she remarked: “I love the Olivia cruises. The diversity of people is incredible and the trips bring such joy. I’ve never seen or experienced anything like them in my entire life. I absolutely adore Olivia.”
Billie Jean King’s professional tennis career is legendary and has been augmented by many top honors along the way: named one of the “100 Most Important Americans of the 20th Century” by Life magazine; received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama; was honored by having the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meado, NY, renamed the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center; and founded World Team Tennis (WTT) and the Women’s Sports Foundation.
Billie has long been a pioneer for social justice and a significant voice in the pursuit of equality for women in sports and in life. Olivia’s friendship with Billie began many years ago and they are excited to welcome her back.
“Olivia cruises are one of our favorite vacations and I am personally looking forward to continuing the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Olivia and being part of a program that includes Edie, Grethe, Cris and Tammy. Amidst all of the relaxing on the high seas, with a group like this you can expect some energetic and enlightening conversations,” she said.
Cris Williamson, one of Olivia Records’ original recording artists, is lauded as a pioneer in women’s music, being one of the first artists to create, perform and market her music specifically to women. Her groundbreaking recording, The Changer and The Changed, became the cry out of the 1970’s women’s and LGBT movements. She has played to multiple sold-out Carnegie Hall audiences and is a 40-year veteran of the international acoustic circuit. Cris was reunited with Meg Christian, another pioneer of Olivia Records, on Olivia’s 40th Anniversary Cruise earlier this year.
Colonel Grethe Cammermeyer, known for her courageous 20+ year fight to ensure that LGBT people can serve openly in the U.S. military, knows well the discrimination that ensued from “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” While undergoing top-secret clearance scrutiny, she admitted to being a lesbian and was summarily separated from the military despite her exemplary record. After a lengthy federal court battle that challenged the existing bans on LGBT service members, she was reinstated in her previous position and eventually retired with honors and full military privileges. This tireless pioneer has been instrumental in the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
“Olivia cruises provide the safety of home where we can live our truth—if only for a week,” said Cammermeyer.
Tammy Smith, also a military LGBT rights activist, made history in 2012 when her wife, Tracey Hepner, promoted her to Brigadier General. When Tracey placed the star on Tammy’s shoulder, Smith became the first gay or lesbian flag officer to serve openly in the U.S. military. "There is something about the Olivia experience that is both powerful and empowering. The interactions with fellow guests are amazing; everyone has a bit of ‘shero’ in her own heart. My favorite part of each trip is meeting the others on board and learning their stories. I return home inspired each and every time!" she said.
These renowned special guests will be joined by an impressive lineup of Olivia performers, including comedian Vickie Shaw, comedian/musician Roxanna Ward, and spoken-word artist CC Carter.
About the voyage:
As it always does, Olivia has chartered the entire ship, ensuring that all 300 guests onboard this all-lesbian cruise will be treated to a memorable New Year’s Eve celebration with these special guests. “We always charter the entire ship or buy out the resort property, and that makes a huge difference in the women’s experience – they can be out and free, mingle with our entertainers and special guests, and really get to know each other. Because it’s only Olivia guests onboard, we end up feeling like family by the end of the week,” remarked Jill Cruse.
The final 40th anniversary festivities take place aboard the luxurious, 5-star Windstar Wind Surf, which is equipped with newly-refurbished staterooms and wide-open, uncrowded teak decks. This intimate, upscale cruise ship will call on Phillipsburg, St. Maarten; Falmouth Harbor, Antigua; Soper’s Hole, Tortola, B.V.I; Jost van Dyke Great Harbor, B.V.I.; Virgin Gorda, Prickly Pear Beach, B.V.I.; and Gustavia, St. Barthelemy. “We are excited about setting sail on this gorgeous ship for a week of visiting ports that the larger cruise ships simply can’t get to. The amazing beaches, gorgeous waters and the renowned special guests and entertainers we have on board means we will finish our 40th Anniversary year in a very special and meaningful way,” said Tisha Floratos, Olivia’s Vice President of Travel and Business Operations.
