A 42-year-old contractor is believed to have committed suicide at Australian actor's Florida home

A man has been found shot dead at the Florida home of Australian actor and singer Olivia Newton-John.

The deceased is believed to be a 42-year-old contractor employed by Newton-John and her husband, John Easterling, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Local police are investigating the death, although initial reports said it appeared to be suicide. Police told the media that Newton-John and Easterling were staying out of town and were not at home at the time of the man's death on Monday.

Sgt Scott Pascarella, spokesman for the Jupiter police, said the deceased man was not related to the couple.

Contractors had been at the residence in recent days repairing the house. Gossip websites report that Newton-John is selling the property to comedian Rosie O'Donnell for an estimated US$5.6m.

The home is in Jupiter Inlet Colony, a small community in Palm Beach, Florida, reportedly popular with celebrities.
