During her appearance on "Late Show," Olivia Wilde told a bizarre story about the time she was given the chance to kill David Blaine, and how she couldn't do it. Blaine came to her house to film tricks for his new special. Those tricks included having Wilde and her fiance, Jason Sudeikis, hold their breath for four minutes. But then there was the trick she didn't want to do.
“He wanted us to hold him under water for 15 minutes," Wilde said. "The best was, he said, ‘It doesn’t matter if I’m thrashing, if I’m begging for my life, you can’t let me up. You just have to hold me down.’ I just don’t want that responsibility.”
She said she was then asked how long it would take to get to the local emergency room, and how long it would take a Medivac helicopter to get to her house. That was all just too much for her. "I was like, this just seems like a bad idea," she said.
Writing for Uproxx, Ned Hepburn was disappointed that Wilde turned Blaine down. "All that dude ever does is escape things, this time including death at the hands of a beautiful woman," he wrote. "But this is America… we can Kickstarter and #hashtag our way into pretty much anything. If we can get Betty White on 'SNL' we can get David Blaine drowned, can’t we?”
Perhaps Wilde was more concerned about keeping Blaine alive because she also told David Letterman that the magician is invited to her wedding where he is expected to perform. Can't do that if she's drowned him, now can he? While Wilde wouldn't give a date for her nuptials, she did suggest that it should be happening soon.
