Peters Township Rider Heading to the Interscholastic Equestrian Association National Finals Patch Peters, PA --

Olivia Bondi, an eighth grader at Peters Township Middle School, recently qualified for the IEA Hunt Seat National Finals in Syracuse, N.Y. and will compete in the Future Novice Over Fences division.

Olivia, her coach Becki Bloom, and fellow team member Annabelle LaRosa will
attend the finals April 19 through April 21.

Bondi rides for the Western Pennsylvania Equestrian Team, which is a member of the Interscholastic Equestrian Association. IEA athletes compete on a team and individual basis in the Hunt Seat discipline. The team is coached by Becki Bloom and rides out of Bloomfield Stables in Belle Vernon, PA.

The mission of the IEA is to introduce students in private and public middle and secondary schools to equestrian sports and to promote and improve the quality of equestrian competition and instruction.

During the 2012-2013 season, 7,100 riders participated in the IEA. Reported by Patch 3 days ago.

Hurricane Relief Project Keeps 'Jerseylicious' Crew on Best Behavior

Hurricane Relief Project Keeps 'Jerseylicious' Crew on Best Behavior Patch Bridgewater, NJ --

Few events in the history of New Jersey have had the impact Superstorm Sandy had, with few left unaffected—or unmoved—by the massive destruction of the storm.

For the cast of "Jerseylicious," the storm left them without power just as it did thousands in the area, and for small business owners like Gatsby Salon owner Gayle Giacomo and Anthony Roberts Salon owner Anthony Lombardi the days without any business weighed heavily.

But that wasn't enough to keep Giacomo from recruiting Lombardi and his salon's staff to help with a fundraiser for the nearby families who suffered even greater losses.

"I want to do something to help the families," Giacomo says, as she and Lombardi begin planning the event.

She suggests offering $25 blow-outs, with funds going for hurricane relief, and she wants to offer free haircuts for anyone who suffered a greater loss in the storm. As Giacomo and Lombardi discuss ideas for the "Beauty Gives Back" event, they decide to include raffles, and a toy and clothing drive.

But there's a cloud.

"The only people we have to be worried about are Gigi (Liscio), Olivia (Blois-Sharpe) and Tracey (DiMarco)," Gayle says.

Lombardi tells his staff about the plans and invites them to participate—later, he tells DiMarco that "what happened at the book party can't happen here."

"We can't go on without knowing we can't get people together in a room or without killing each other," Lombardi says.

When he tells her Liscio might be there, DiMarco suggests telling Liscio not to drink.

Meanwhile, at Gatsby, Giacomo takes Liscio aside to talk to her about the upcoming event—and her behavior.

"I don't want any friction at this event," she says. "I never expected you, of all people, to act so crazy."

Everything seems set after Giacomo and daughter Christy Pereira, Gatsby Salon manager, also warn DiMarco "we can't have any of that crap here."

The day for the events arrives, and tensions are rising as the two salons staff gather and setup. Before opening the doors, Lombardi tries to rally the crew.

"Let's just put everything behind and try to work together as best we can," he tells the group. He notes there's a lot going on at Gatsby, with raffles, silent auctions, haircuts, blow-outs. "We have to do everything we can to help others after this storm."

The salon is packed; people come in to drop off donations and buy raffle tickets. Guests at the salon share their loses and express how appreciative they are of the event.

"Hurricane or no hurricane, I'm really thankful for what we were able to do today," Blois-Sharpe said.

It seems everything will be fine—until Jackie Bianchi tells Blois-Sharpe she can't stand around without telling Liscio how she feels. She corners Liscio in the salon kitchen and says she doens't appreciate the things said about her.

"I feel like what you did to Olivia was fake," she says.

Liscio denies ever saying anything bad about Blois-Sharpe—but before the two settle their disagreement, Pereira arrives with a box van full of donations she's collected.

After all of the haircuts, raffles, auctions and donations are totaled, Giacomo announces the event raised $7,700 for the RAINE Foundation (for "Reaching All in Need Everyday).

"I'm really happy we were able to come together and bring this off," Lombardi says.

The Hoarder Next Door | North Korea Undercover – Panorama | Fit To Rule: How Royal Illness Changed History | Broadchurch | Battle Scarred: Exit Wounds | Spartacus: War of the Damned | MTV Movie Awards | Live Indian Premier League Cricket

**The Hoarder Next Door*
9pm, Channel 4*

The return of the show in which psychotherapist Stelios Kiosses helps adults tidy their rooms. First up is Alison, who has spent £40,000 on ladybird-themed accessories, until her house resembles an insect zoo. Elsewhere, schoolteacher Jo can't move for puppets and donkey costumes. "I can just about make it into bed," she admits. Like many of Channel 4's Barnum-with-a-heart shows, it comes complete with that tinkly incidental music that puts one in mind of a mischievous Tim Burton hiding behind a bush. Ali Catterall

*North Korea Undercover – Panorama
8.30pm, BBC1*

In a show that will likely be edited at the last moment, considering current tensions, John Sweeney spends eight days undercover inside a land for which the description "police state" seems inadequate. Visiting the capital city, Pyongyang, the countryside beyond and the demilitarised zone on the border with South Korea, Sweeney discovers a country where an elite, frighteningly prepared to beat the drum for nuclear Armageddon, has brainwashed the people for generations. Jonathan Wright

**Fit To Rule: How Royal Illness Changed History*
9pm, BBC2*

The second part of Dr Lucy Worsley's exploration of monarchy and health covers the end of the Stuarts to the rise of the House of Hanover. James II is ditched by parliament, which then installs its own monarch, William III. We learn about Will's poor health – he moved to Hampton Court because of his asthma – as well as the gynaecological problems of his successor, Anne. The effervescent Worsley also investigates George III's manic episodes, and his son's problems with obesity and drugs. Martin Skegg

**Broadchurch*
9pm, ITV*

No previews were available for the final two episodes of Broadchurch, so we can all sit, noses pressed to screen, and find out who dunnit together. Before then, expect more twists and double-backs than a Beth Tweddle routine. It would be nice if DS Miller (Olivia Colman) strode in at the end and solved it after playing second fiddle to David Tennant's DI Hardy all series. Their acting has been rightly praised, but writer Chris Chibnall must also be heaped with acclaim for his densely woven web of misdirection. Julia Raeside

*Battle Scarred: Exit Wounds
10pm, Channel 5*

Chris Terrill is one of the latterday kings of embedded documentary. A kind of Ross Kemp – if Ross Kemp were an intelligent fiftysomething who had been awarded an honorary green beret by the Royal Marine Commandos – the guy can certainly walk it. This he has done in theatres of combat as dangerous as Helmand province and the social circle of Charlotte Church. Here, Terrill examines war's impact on the psychological state of its participants, speaking to ex-soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. John Robinson

**Spartacus: War of the Damned*
10pm, Sky1*

So, after lakes of blood have been shed, hundreds of foes spectacularly slain in stylised slo-mo, and vast acres of largely male, glowing flesh have been displayed on screen, Spartacus reaches its conclusion. From reading our history books we know what that means: Crixus and his army are already defeated. However, the writers have wrought the material bequeathed to them into a sad, yet uplifting ending in keeping with what has been an emotionally involving series, despite its comic-book tendencies. David Stubbs

*2013 MTV Movie Awards
9pm, MTV*

Can't help feeling that, so far after awards season, the MTV movie gongs look a bit like they're just copying what everybody else said. Luckily, there are less stuffy categories, such as Best Kiss and Best Fight. You don't get that at the Golden Globes. Rebel Wilson hosts proceedings, with Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig and Taylor Lautner tussling for the coveted best shirtless performance, while Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Anne Hathaway and Mila Kunis chase the more dignified best female performance. Ben Arnold

*Live Indian Premier League Cricket
3pm, ITV4*

The contrast between the half-empty stadiums that framed the recent India v Australia Test series and the packed houses attending the new IPL season represents an alarming ghost of cricket future. The 19th fixture of this tournament pits the handy Super Kings, led by India's beloved captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, against a thus-far underwhelming Warriors, who are perhaps over-reliant on the talents of Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews. Vet of the Year award for Tim This is Cornwall --

A Westcountry vet has won a top national accolade for his welfare work.

Tim Phillips, of Elm Veterinary Centre in Plymouth, was presented with the Vet of the Year Award 2013 by the Ceva Awards for Animal Welfare.

Tim was nominated by Douglas Hodge, from Pippins cattery, Plymouth, for his outstanding work with animals in Greece.

Tim and his wife, Angie, have used their own money and free time to treat animals on their holidays to Greece for the last 15 years.

The next trip, in May, will be their first to Arta, where the animals are "desperate" for treatment, according to Tim.

The couple attended the awards ceremony, with Douglas and his wife Olivia, at the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham.

Judges, finalists and guests were shown videos of the four finalists' work, before Tim was announced as the winner of the category.

It was the second year of the Ceva awards, which were created to recognise volunteers, children and veterinary professionals, such as Tim, who are dedicated to improving global animal welfare.

Tim said: "Angie and I were both delighted about the award.

"Winning highlights the work that is already going on in Greece, but I also hope it reminds people of what is yet to be done." Reported by This is 7 minutes ago.

I could never fall for Margaret Thatcher's elusive charms

Others may have swooned over Mrs Thatcher – including those who should have known better – but she always baffled me

Things have calmed down a bit now. She's gone, I haven't felt like partying, and by Wednesday it will be almost over. I have always been baffled by the Thatcher phenomenon – why did so many people admire her and take her seriously? To me, she always looked slightly potty: the glaring eyes, the imperious tone, the clunking and hopeless attempts at a "joke". She didn't seem well. Why did no one else notice?

Then I watched her talking about the death of her father, whom she adored. Tears came to her eyes. And to mine! There I was, mesmerised by a woman I thought I hated, and blubbing along with her. I had to give myself a sharp slap in the face to snap out of it. But what power. Even at that safe distance, through a telly. What ever must a real-life meeting be like?

Pretty grim, apparently. I once knew a chap who, early in Thatcher's career, gave her an elocution lesson. He had such a frightful time that he refused to give her another one. But it could go either way. Olivia's husband went out to a dinner and sat next to her. He came home almost in love, in a sort of daze, with a soppy look on his face, and he had never voted Tory. Olivia and her friends mocked him, but it made no difference. He was done for. Only temporarily, luckily, but the effect had been shocking.

Learning from this experience, Olivia applied Thatcher techniques while campaigning for a byelection in Kensington. She addressed male Labour campaigners like infants, handing them whatever they needed, and saying strictly: "Pen? Notebook? Leaflets?""Yes," mumbled the men, "Then, off you go!" said Olivia, giving them a motherly pat. And it worked. They did exactly as they were told. The campaign ran like clockwork.

For a few days, Olivia experienced power. But she was never going to really have any. Not with Labour in Kensington. Anyway, what would she have done with it? Power is not often a good thing. As we all now know to our cost. Reported by guardian.co.uk 17 hours ago.

Jillian Michaels Shares Realistic Tips For Getting Bikini Ready In Time For Summer *Jillian Michaels* made a dramatic return on this past season of The Biggest Loser and showed she meant business when her contestant *Danni Allen* ran away with the top prize.

And now the Health and Wellness Expert and EBoost Chief Energy Officer is currently on a tour around the nation to help people make the most out of their lives throught fitness and getting motivated.

*OK!'S 12 WEEK COUNTDOWN TO SUMMER*

The busy mom-of-two shared with OKMagazine.com the best way she feels we can get bikini ready as part of our *12 Week Countdown To Summer*, how to deal with PCOS and how motherhood has changed her life.

*OK!: What can fans expect from the Maximize Your Life tour? *

I just love the ability to have a direct connection with the audience. I find it to be the most effective medium for motivating and educating people.  Fans can expect to learn the science behind proper nutrition and diet to optimize their metabolism and cutting edge fitness techniques to transform their physique, but more importantly they can expect motivation and inspiration.  We will be looking at what holds them back, why, and then subsequently HOW to turn anything around and achieve their goals.

*#MOTIVATION MONDAY: HOW BIGGEST LOSER WINNER OLIVIA WARD AND RUNNER UP HANNAH CURLEE ARE KEEPING OFF THE WEIGHT*

*OK!: We're currently doing OK!'s 12 Week Countdown to Summer, what are some of your top tips for readers to get bikini ready this year?   *

In my new book SLIM FOR LIFE I actually talk a lot about ways to cut through all of the diet myths and other crap to get - and STAY - healthy and fit for a lifetime.  There are so many ways to work better health and fitness into our day to day lifestyles (and yes, get bikini ready.)  For example;

*'BIGGEST' LOSER WINNER DANNI ALLEN REVEALS GENEROUS WAY SHE'LL SPEND HER $250K PRIZE*

· Don't skip meals and don't graze.  Eat 4 times a day, which equals out to every four hours (breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner.)

· When you indulge (and let's face it, we ALL do) do it 20% of the time.  The other 80% make the healthier choice.  This could be 20% of your calories overall or to simplify, every 5th meal.

*HEALTHY EATS! HOW EATING PALEO LIKE OUR ANCESTORS CAN HELP SHED THE POUNDS*

· Get enough sleep.  Lack of sleep can sabotage your health and wellness in so many ways.  And it can and does have an affect on weight loss so it is key to getting bikini ready.  We should be doing all we can to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

· Work out HARD.  We are all busy and finding time to get a workout it can be tough.  When you do get time for exercise, make the most of it.  Work multiple muscle groups at the same time and do high intensity interval training circuits to really blast your heart rate.  Get more bang for your buck and get fit faster.

*OK!: What is the biggest weight loss myth that people subscribe to?*

Gosh.  There are so many!  A couple of big ones include:

*HEALTHY EATS! HOW TO GRAB FAST FOOD WITHOUT RUINING YOUR DIET*

*Eating Small, Frequent Meals Boosts Your Metabolism* - This is a myth.  It is based on the theory that if you keep adding small amounts of food to your fire (that fire being your metabolism) you'll keep it going strong and burn more calories overall.  The OPPOSITE is true.  If you keep adding food to the fire, you'll never dig into your fat stores. The goal is actually to eat every four hours.  In the book I explain my "Four-by-Four" rule.  Each four times a day, every four hours.  This means one substantive, healthy snack between lunch and dinner.  This will help stabilize your blood sugar, optimize insulin production and manage hunger - all of which are critical to weight loss and staying slim.

*CELEB DIET TIPS! 'BIGGEST LOSER' TRAINER BOB HARPER ON GETTING BIKINI READY FOR SUMMER*

*Genetics Make Your Fat* - This is a myth.  It maybe be harder for you to maintain slim than it is for that friend who eats whatever he or she wants to and never gains an ounce, but you are not relegated to obesity because of your genetics.  We affect the expression of our genes through our lifestyle choices and eating well, moving more and taking care of yourself can help you be slim for life.

*HEALTHY EATS! PREPARE YOUR HOME FOR WEIGHT LOSS SUCCESS*

*OK!: You are a big supporter of the BodyMedia armband - how can this help during someone's weight loss journey?*

At the end of the day they fundamental key to weight loss is calories in, calories out.  You must burn more than you take in.  The BodyMedia FIT is a fantastic way to keep track of calories, activity, sleep - all of the essential elements in fast, effective weight loss.  It keeps you truly accountable, provides key information, and helps to motivate you to get and stay on track.

*OK!: Biggest Loser alum Olivia Ward and Hannah Curlee recently told OKMagazine.com about how having Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) affected their weight loss? Any advice for women struggling with their weight because of the condition?*

PCOS is directly linked to insulin resistance.  As you begin to get healthy, change your diet, and exercise you should see huge improvements in your condition. With that said, it's equally important to discuss with a board certified endocrinologist to make sure your game plan is solid.

*OK!: Tell me about your new energy drink Eboost www.eboost.com, what's different about it to other energy drinks out there?*

EBoost is a MUST have for me.  In addition to being a mom of two small kids, I'm in the middle of my first LIVE speaking tour.  The entire family is literally crossing the US andCanada over the next two months, making stops in 34 cities.  Needless to say, I definitely look for ways to boost my energy and EBoost is my go-to.  It is all-natural, which is key for me.  It's a clean energy drink packed with vitamins, nutrients and green tea extract, so I'm getting that energy punch I need in a healthy way. And it comes in handy packets that I can just stick in my bag and mix with water on the go!

*OK!: You are a new mom of not one, but two babies, how has becoming a mother changed your life specifically?*

The short answer?  How HASN'T it changed me? Motherhood changes every single thing about your life.  Literally.  My priorities.  The way I spend my time.  How I see things.  Everything.  Even my desire to be fit and healthy.  It's stronger now than ever before.  It is so important to me to set a healthy example for my kids and help them develop good habits that will last them their entire lives.  And I want to be healthy and fit for them.  I want to be here to see them learn and grow and to be a healthy mom that can be active and engaged with them through their lives.

8. What is the most surprising thing you've found about becoming a mom?

I guess it's just an amazing feeling to love another human this much.  I never realized how they would become my pure joy in the ways they have.

*STAR BODIES! GET BEYONCE'S DIVINE BEHIND WITH THIS EFFECTIVE WORKOUT*

*OK!: How are you practically managing to combine your career with motherhood?*

I multitask.  I always heard that mom's were the queen of multitasking and have now learned by experience that it's true.  My kids are young right now, so it's great because I can take them to work with me.  They come with me to set and the whole family is traveling across the country on my live tour.  I definitely have less me time now and do all I can to make the most of it when I do.  This means making sure I work out HARD when I do and taking steps to maximize the time (such as working multiple muscle groups at once like I mentioned before).  It's not ideal, but sometimes I answer emails or do conference calls on the treadmill.  And we do all we can to be active WITH our kids - jogging with the jogging stroller, paddle boarding together - fun, active ways to get exercise and spend time together as a family.

*CELEB DIET TIPS! GWYNETH PALTROW'S TRAINER TRACY ANDERSON ON GETTING THE BODY YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED*

*OK!: Was returning to this season of The Biggest Loser what you hoped it would be after your hiatus?*

Absolutely.  Working with the teens was also such a huge highlight for me.

Liz Abzug: Proud to Be Loud: Women's Leadership & Mayoral Candidate Christine Quinn

$
0
0
Tomorrow I will join a group of leading New York feminists at the Eleanor Roosevelt statue on the Upper west Side to endorse Christine Quinn in her race to become the first women and first gay mayor of New York City.

I have been recently struck with a sense of deja vu about this race. It was 36 years ago that my mother, Congresswoman Bella Abzug, ran unsuccessfully to become the first woman mayor of New York City. And just as Chris Quinn is being accused of today, Bella was widely criticized for being loud, argumentative, bossy, and outspoken.

Like Bella, Chris Quinn has a great sense of humor--an important quality in a politician. And like Bella, Chris has no intention of shutting up."I'm LOUD," she recently told 200 supporters of the young women's leadership training Institute I founded in 2005, the Bella Abzug Leadership Institute (BALI). Chris was a "Bella Fella" honoree this year. Her unrehearsed speech at our awards event grabbed the "bossy woman" bull by its horns and ...well, see for yourself:

Speaker Quinn went on to thank my mother for helping create a climate in which an LGBT woman could be the Speaker of the City Council. For "creating a city" in which, in response to last month's major New York Times profile portraying her as an angry woman, "the letters to the editor are flooded from women who write, 'Good...we should be loud! We should be heard. And sometimes, to be heard, we have to be a little louder than the men in the room, and that's okay."

This is an historic moment for women in politics. Consider that just five months ago Elizabeth Warren entered the Senate, generally known as an exclusive men's club, as a "tell it like it is" populist in the tradition of my mother Bella. Unapologetically strong, Senator Warren is an aggressive female politician who is not afraid to have her voice heard, or to take firmly principled, independent stands on the most critical issues facing all Americans. The recent election also brought Tammy Baldwin, the first gay person to be elected to serve in the United States Senate. Joining outspoken, compassionate leaders like Barbara Mikulski, Kirsten Gillibrand, Barbara Boxer, and Patty Murray, their election sets a historic record for the number of women Senators.

Now we have Christine Quinn, the first LGBT candidate running to become the first women Mayor of New York City. In 1977 I was in every neighborhood of New York City campaigning with my mother, "Battlin' Bella," during her precedent setting run to become the first woman Mayor of New York City. In that same tradition, I know that Christine must be strong, caring--and tough. And it's okay that she is fiery. Here in one of the most fabulously challenging cities on earth, New Yorkers love a fighter! I believe that Chris must speak loudly--and proudly, as she stands up for all the people of New York, and gets things done.

BALI is a small, highly effective leadership training Institute for girls and young women, which Chris has helped support as Speaker of the City Council. It teaches leadership skills to young women from widely diverse backgrounds. Many of the dozens of women are selected for our free two-week intensivesummer training and mentoring, program and many of the very talented, motivated 200 high school and middle school girls who participate in our debate program, start out as shy students who rarely think their ideas are worth expressing to others.

Then they become like Olivia Torres, thehigh school senior who had never spoken in public before she became a BALI trainee.See for yourself, as Olivia spoke to 200 people, clear as a bell, though maybe not that loud...yet!

Of course,I like the symbolism of the Eleanor Roosevelt monument that Christine Quinn selected for feminists to announce our support of her campaign. Incredibly, this was the first statue of a woman in history ever commissioned by New York City's 350-year history. It was not built until 1996, so it was not around when Bella ran for Mayor in 1977.

Times have changed. And with the help of loud, strong, experienced, effective, caring women like Chris Quinn, and the young women of today that we see rising in our trainings at BALI, times will continue to change, for the better. Reported by Huffington Post 4 hours ago.

PHOTOS: The 7 Most Hated People In Fashion

$

The fashion world isn't exactly known for playing nice. Industry insiders are constantly the source of gossip, whether it be a feud, snobbery or your run-of-the-mill controversy. In no particular order, we've rounded up who by many accounts seem to be the most disliked -- dare we say hated? -- people in fashion:

*1. Anna Wintour*
The Vogue editor-in-chief's intimidating antics have been the source of gossip since she arrived at the mag in 1983. Then, of course, there was that little novel-turned-film she inspired, "The Devil Wears Prada." Need we say more?

*2. Victoria Beckham*
Posh's propensity for pouting is just one reason the fashion designer has gotten a cold reputation. Jealousy aside (ahem, David Beckham), Victoria sent off the snob alarms when she kept her distance from fellow Spice Girls at the opening of their musical last year. And hey, even she admits that she can seem a bit icy. "People think I’m a moody bitch," she told Elle.

*3. Olivia Palermo*
The New York socialite had her first taste of backlash in 2007 when a "Gossip Girl"-style site posted a letter she had allegedly written asking the catty girls on her social scene “for acceptance, privacy and forgiveness.” A lawsuit ensued (Olivia vehemently denied writing the letter) and we eventually forgot about her -- until she was cast as the antagonist on the MTV reality show "The City" the next year. Next time, Olivia, it might be wise to be a little nicer to Whitney Port if you want to boost your public image.

*4. Miranda Kerr*
OK, so we know this seems like a curveball, but the model has sparked her fair share of controversy. Just this week, it was rumored that her "diva antics" cost her a renewed contract with Victoria's Secret (she says she simply didn't have enough time to commit to the brand, though). Not to mention, Miranda's comments about epidurals and "drugged-up" babies after the natural birth of her son didn't make people too happy either. On the other hand, the rep might be entirely blown out of proportion (we've met the model ourselves and can attest to her good nature).

*5. Joan Rivers*
Can you think of anyone else more feared by red carpet goers? The "Fashion Police" host not only raises eyebrows for her always edgy jokes, but she also has rubbed more than a few people the wrong way. Joan's comments about Adele ("She should just calm down -- or lose weight!") and her now-infamous Holocaust joke are just a couple of examples.

*6. John Galliano*
Arguably the most polarizing figure in the fashion industry, this designer made headlines in 2011 when he was filmed making an anti-semitic tirade in Paris. The incident led to his dismissal from his namesake label and from his position at Christian Dior. This year, however, Oscar de la Renta invited Galliano into his studio. The jury's still out on if he'll ever be able to fix his disgraced image.

*7. Cathy Horyn*
It seems like the New York Times fashion critic rarely publishes a critical review without an even more critical response. After slamming Lady Gaga's CFDA Awards get-up, Horyn was given a taste of her own medicine when the singer compared her to an "average individual at home on their laptop" and said that her writing was "plagued with negativity." Designers like Oscar de la Renta and Hedi Slimane have also taken shots at the journalist, calling Horyn a "stale 3-day old hamburger" and a "publicist in disguise," respectively.

So tell us: did we miss anyone?

Find Out How Juicing Benefits Your Body Juicing fruits and vegetables has become one of the most popular trends, not just in the raw and natural living movements, but as a quick meal replacement or as a way to incorporate more fruit and veggies into a healthy eating lifestyle.

However, some of us are still unsure of the everyday benefits of juicing, so as part of *OK!'s 12 Week Countdown To Summer* we're breaking it down for you.

*HEALTHY EATS! HOW EATING PALEO LIKE OUR ANCESTORS CAN HELP SHED THE POUNDS*

Whether it’s detoxifying your system to support a healthy liver or consuming nutrients to grow the strong nails you’ve always wanted, juicing raw fruits and vegetables can be beneficial for various parts of the body, serving as a full body rejuvenator.

*LIVER*: The main function of the liver is to clean out toxins in the body, but what if your liver has too many toxins within itself? Cleansing of the liver with fruits and vegetables in liquid form can reduce toxins. Green drinks made with Spinach, Zucchini, Kale and Cucumbers can support liver function.

*GWYNETH PALTROW SHARES HOW GOING GLUTEN-FREE CHANGED LIFE FOR HER FAMILY*

*EYES*: Vitamins and antioxidants help to maintain healthy eyes. Lack of vitamin A can cause poor vision. Juicing carrots (packed with Vitamin A) and  berries (loaded with antioxidants) are a good start to preserving the health of your eyes.

*NAILS*: No one likes chipped and split nails. Vitamins and minerals found in carrot juice can help. Carrots are high in zinc, iron, vitamin A and calcium – all of which contribute to healthy nails.

*STAR BODIES! GET BEYONCE'S DIVINE BEHIND WITH THIS EFFECTIVE WORKOUT*

*HAIR*: Everyone wants a head of beautiful tresses. Vitamins C and E are essential for enhanced hair growth. Greens such as spinach, collards and turnips are rich in vitamin E. Citrus fruits such as lemons, limes and grapefruits can improve circulation to the scalp.

*HEART*: High cholesterol can clog the arteries, constricting of the blood flow to the heart. A plant based diet (fruits, vegetables and even herbs) can help regulate circulation. Apples, Cranberries, Grapefruit, Avocado, Broccoli and Celery can help support heart health and herbs such as cayenne pepper can help with blood circulation.

Check out some great options for juicers to implement into your juicy new lifestyle!

*The Omega Vert VRT350 Juicer* is a revolutionary product that features the high efficiency of a masticating style juicer in a vertical design. The Vert is designed to be compact, contemporary and productive. Most juicers process at a speed of 1,650 to 16,000 RPM, destroying many healthy enzymes and causing juice to degrade shortly after being extracted. The Vert VRT350 Low Speed Juicing System processes at 80 RPM, preventing oxidation and allowing juice to be stored for up to 72 hours without degradation.

*HEALTHY EATS! HOW TO GRAB FAST FOOD WITHOUT RUINING YOUR DIET*

*The BELLA NutriPro* is a standout juicer that operates using a mastication (chewing) method, which is usually only seen in commercial grade machines.  Typical consumer grade juicers use steel blades that cut and pulverize the produce giving you as much as 40% less juice and ultimately fewer nutrients.

BELLA NutriPro is beneficial on two levels:  first, the product efficiently prepares cold pressed juices while preserving the wholesome pulp and maintaining the natural integrity of the nutrients.  Additionally, BELLA NutriPro advocates the benefits of juicing that are vital to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.

What Are The Critics Saying About Tom Cruise?

$

Early in the sleek sci-fi thriller "Oblivion," Tom Cruise, as a flyboy repairman living a removed, Jetsons-like existence above an invaded and deserted Earth, intones his home sickness.

"I can't shake the feeling that despite all that's happened, Earth is still my home," he narrates.

One can't help but chortle and wonder if Cruise is speaking for himself. The chiseled blockbuster star carries so much baggage nowadays that an audience's relationship to him often feels downright alien.

But Cruise, that unrelenting bullet of headlong momentum, is undaunted. He keeps coming back with even bigger films, most of which, despite it all, he reliably propels – even if it's become harder to see Cruise as anything other than himself.

In "Oblivion," the second film from "Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski, he plays Jack Harper, a patroller of the drone-controlled skies over Earth. From a sparse dock where he lives with his supervisor and girlfriend, Victoria (Andrea Riseborough), Jack makes daily flights in his spacecraft to the Earth's barren surface. "We're the mop-up crew," he says.

He tells us that it's been 60 years since aliens invaded, first knocking out the moon (goodnight moon, indeed) and then leading to a devastating nuclear war. Though humans, he says, won out, they had to abandon the planet's surface (New York is buried up to the Empire State Building's needle), taking refuge on a moon of Saturn. On a desolate Earth, the only beings remaining are hiding bands of Scavengers ("Scavs") that look something like a cross between the Tusken Raiders of "Star Wars" and Milli Vanilli.

Monitoring the land are white, round drones that appear like giant, floating cue balls from afar, but menacing robot killers up close. Occasionally, they need servicing from Jack (Cruise as WALL-E). He avoids their blasters by authenticating himself, but as they bleep and blork, he cowers anxiously – not entirely certain they're on the same team.

His faith is greater with Victoria, who guides his movements from her computerized desk. Her superior (played with a folksy Southern accent by Melissa Leo) is seen only in scratchy video communiques.

So we are back in a post-apocalyptic world, a place to which movies lately can't help returning, all with various images of wrecked ironic monuments and unpeopled landscapes. We have seen many of the elements of "Oblivion" in countless science fiction tales before. But we've seldom seen them more beautifully rendered.

Kosinski, who based the film on the ideas of his unpublished graphic novel, is an expert in 3-D modeling and computer graphics. His "Tron: Legacy" was a critical flop for its muddled story but was nevertheless remarkable for its elegant digital architecture (including the more natural but no less exquisitely structured face of Olivia Wilde). His two movies now seem to owe as much to the iPod as anything: glossy clean surfaces with throbbing electronic scores (Daft Punk for "Tron," M83 for "Oblivion").

He filmed "Oblivion" with cinematographer Claudio Miranda, who also shot "Tron: Legacy" and since did the gorgeous filmography of Ang Lee's "Life of Pi." In "Oblivion," they achieve a symphony of otherworldly sleekness when Victoria disrobes and dives into a pool on their space station, her dark silhouette outlined on the sunset stratosphere. We, too, bath in the imagery.

This carefully organized world is thrown when a NASA shuttle crashes with an astronaut, Julia (Olga Kurylenko), who seems to recognize Jack. His own memory has been scrubbed but flickers with images from his past.

As the film builds, it plays with familiar sci-fi themes of identity, memory, faith in institutions and human nature. Little can be said about Morgan Freeman's character without giving much away, but suffice to say that he enters the film in shades, lighting a cigar and wearing a cape. Yes, a cape. Kosinski could have chucked all his visual effects and just gone with a cape-clad Freeman.

Analyzing the substance of "Oblivion," which declines – as so many science-fiction films do – as the puzzles are solved, inevitably diminishes the film. But for those who enjoy the simple thrill of handsomely stylized image-making, "Oblivion" is mostly mesmerizing.

The severe artificiality of the film's universe begins cracking with Jack's curiosity for earthly, analog things. It started with a found book, and grows in his secret mountain hideaway of old records, a baseball cap and literature.

It's a familiar trope in sci-fi that humanity breathes eternally through art. But if films like "Oblivion" are so preoccupied by the detritus of our civilization, perhaps we ought to aim a little higher than Tom Cruise blockbusters. After all, our future fate depends on it.

"Oblivion," a Universal Pictures release, is rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, brief strong language, and some sensuality. Running time: 124 minutes. Two and a half stars out of four.

PHOTOS: The 7 Most Hated People In Fashion
