Mountain challenge in memory of baby Olivia This is Tamworth --

WHEN Tamworth couple Sean Byrne and Sophie Bishop complete their gruelling Three Peaks challenge on Saturday, August 10 – it will be almost a year since their daughter Olivia Grace was brought into the world.

It has been a year of great hardship, from the ecstasy of birth to the unimaginable tragedy of losing their firstborn.

But despite their suffering, the couple's tale reaffirms belief in the strength of compassion and support of others – and repaying debts of gratitude.

It was only a few days after being born at Good Hope Hospital on August 25 that Olivia's complications became apparent .

After being transferred to Heartlands Hospital and treated for an infection, she was later moved to Birmingham Children's Hospital where she would remain until Christmas Eve.

Little Olivia was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's Disease – where the gastrointestinal tract has no nerves and therefore cannot function.

Olivia suffered from many complex problems, including brain stem demyelination, a condition which affects the neurons. which would ultimately claim her life.

"The conditions were life-limiting," said Sean, aged 26. "The doctors said she would live for around six months with palliative care so we could take her home."

It was at this point that the support of Acorns Childrens' Hospice in Walsall entered the lives of Sean, Sophie and Olivia.

"We visited Acorns a number of times," explained Sean, a Sergeant in the 3rd Regiment of the Royal Horse Artillery. "They had a Jacuzzi which Olivia loved, there was arts and crafts, we've got quite a lot of good memories from the hospice.

"Their [Acorns] main contribution was in the last nine days when Olivia took ill and we had taken her to A&E, but there wasn't much they could do for her.

"We were left with two options, keep her on a hospital ward or take her to Acorns. The staff at Acorns made sure Olivia was pain free and would ensure she was not alone when we needed to go out for a walk."

Olivia passed away on Wednesday, May 22.

"We owe a debt of gratitude to Acorns," said Sean. "They helped us make the best of a bad situation.

"Rather than sit down and mope about it and feel sorry for ourselves, we wanted to do something to show our thanks for all their support."

Sean and 21-year-old Sophie, of Sunset Close in Tamworth, will be joined by Sophie's brother Jamie, aged 18, and 26-year-old sister Kerry to take on the Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday, August 20.

Renaming the event "Grace The Peaks" in memory of Olivia Grace, the group is aiming to raise £2,000 for Acorns Children's Hospice.

They will be joined by Sean's former schoolmates at QEMS, Gary Short, Greg Elton, Mia Lowe, Jay Smith and Ryan Hassan, all aged 26.

Together, they will scale the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours.

http://www.AntiAgingWrinkleCreamExperience.com is known for its wrinkle cream reviews, but now it also offers information on how to age healthily, using brain power to fight aging, how depression ages skin and more on their ‘Let’s Talk About Aging’ blog.

(PRWEB) June 14, 2013

As a consumer and wrinkle cream enthusiast, Olivia Maguire created AntiAgingWrinkleCreamExperience.com to share her journey to find the best anti-aging products. AntiAgingWrinkleCreamExperience.com is dedicated to finding, trying, and reviewing the best anti aging products. It now offers users an educational experience as well.

Olivia Maguire, the site’s creator and director, explains the importance of the ‘aging’ spectrum. She claims that looking young takes more than a great anti wrinkle cream:

“I didn’t start this blog just to review wrinkle creams. I want people to understand more about their aging health. There are reasons why someone can be 40 years old and look 25 - it’s not just about the anti wrinkle cream they use. Their mental health, diet, and other factors can make a big difference. That was the objective behind my featured ‘Let’s talk about Aging’ blog.”

The educational video blog is part of AntiAgingWrinkleCreamExperience.com, and gives users information and tips to help keep skin healthy and radiant. On AntiAgingWrinkleCreamExperience.com, users can find articles on why milk is good for skin, the positive effects of social relationships on aging, how emotional stability can help curb aging and more.

In addition to the aging education blog, the main purpose of AntiAgingWrinkleCreamExperience.com is to provide the public with the best wrinkle cream consumer reports. Olivia shares her motivation for creating her review site:

“On my 26th birthday, I noticed fine lines that started to appear around my I started the search for a product that would reverse the appearance of fine lines and restore my skin to its youthful condition. After exhausting searches on Google and researching literally hundreds of creams, I settled on buying a few of the popular ‘tried and tested’ products. I did find a product that ultimately saved my skin.”

"I shared the product reviews on my site and I was thrilled to find that dozens of women were anxious to share their wrinkle cream experiences as well. Together with other age-defying women, I’ve put together this site to help provide wrinkle-defying resources with product reviews and helpful anti-aging tips and information."

Consumers can learn more about the product that saved Olivia’s skin and they can enjoy her “Let’s Talk About Aging” on her website. Reported by PRWeb 19 hours ago.

Medication 'Take Back' Event Saturday in Charlestown

Medication 'Take Back' Event Saturday in Charlestown Patch Charlestown, MA --

The fourth annual “Take Back” prescription drug disposal day will be held Saturday, June 15 in Charlestown during the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce Annual Street Fair.

Sponsored by the Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition, a program of the MGH Center for Community Health Improvement, the Chamber of Commerce and Boston Police, the event will be the community’s fourth annual Prescription Drug “Take Back."

The awareness campaign and safe disposal day are designed to address the dangers of prescription drug abuse and lack of proper disposal methods. National authorities state that throwing used medications down the toilet or into the trash is not a safe environmental disposal method.

More than 150 individuals turned 580 vials of prescription medication and 53 vials of narcotic medications last year, and the unused prescription drugs were disposed in a safe and timely manner.

People who have unused medications can drop them in safe disposal medication bags that have been distributed throughout the neighborhood. Bags can be dropped off at the "Take Back" booth set up during the Street Fair, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street between Austin and West School streets.

Residents who drop off a bag of unused prescriptions will receive a $5 gift card from a local merchant. Ambiance, Dunkin Donuts, Grasshopper Café, Toni Ann’s, Color for Nails, Hair Cuttery, Unleashed and Olivia Browning have donated gift cards.

“Take Back successfully brings together the entire community around one cause—taking prescription drugs out of our neighborhood,” said Beth Rosenshein, director of CSAC.

This year’s event is being held in conjunction with Turn It Around, a new social marketing campaign targeting teens and prescription drug abuse. CSAC’s youth group youth have been mounting posters throughout the streets of Charlestown and distributing T-shirts, stickers and buttons to local teens with messages about prescription drug abuse. Plans are underway for the campaign to appear on local subway and bus shelter signage.

The Turn It Around campaign incorporates these facts and combines the insights from the coalition’s youth group and the community to ensure that the campaign is relevant and authentic. Here’s what the young people said about why teens use or think of using prescription drugs: stress and depression, social pressure, family issues and feelings of wanting to escape. In addition, prescription drugs are easy to find and society tells us that prescription drugs make people feel better.

The brightly colored Turn It Around posters acknowledge the factors that contribute to teen prescription drug abuse. The campaign’s tag line, Turn It Around, is a positive message for youth who want to avoid or stop abuse prescription drugs.

In addition to the posters, T-shirts, buttons and stickers, the Turn It Around campaign uses social media outlets Facebook and Twitter (@turnitaroundctn) to create a forum where teens can share their feelings and address their stressors in healthy ways, and receive information about community resources that can help them overcome prescription abuse or addiction.

There also is a handout listing resources that will be available in pediatricians offices and the MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center. Reported by Patch 16 hours ago.

Dedham Middle School Holds NJHS Induction Ceremony Patch Dedham, MA --

Dedham Middle School Principal Debra Gately and Vice Principal Dr. Margo Fraczek, take great pride in their student`s academic performance. At the end of each term, the pair of educators hold a recognition ceremony to pay tribute to the 6-8^th grade boys and girls that have achieved honors. Each Spring however, is the opportunity to recognize “the best of the best.”

Throughout the school year, the students in grades 6 and 7 are judged, not only in the area of Scholarship, but by their accomplishments in Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. These are the “five qualities” to be considered for induction in to the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

In 1929, the National Association of Secondary School Principals established the NJHS. This organization comes on the heels of the 1921 National Honor Society.

Both groups were the first in the nation, to honor Middle School and High School students, not only for their academic achievements, but for their active involvement in school activities and community affairs. Today, more than one million boys and girls across the United States, participate in the Honor Society.

For each school in America, there are special teacher/advisors, along with an anonymous group of faculty members, who review recommendation forms and make the final decision about who will be invited to join. Once inducted, students must maintain a high grade level and become involved in their school and their community.

This year, the NJHS members from the Dedham Middle School raised money for the Don Heald Fund and the Boston Strong One Fund. They participated in the Cystic Fibrosis Walk and helped clean the banks of the Charles River and neighboring parks on Earth Day. There was volunteer work with patients at Newbridge on the Charles and food drives for the Dedham Food Pantry, just to name a few.

On Monday June 10, DMS Principal Gately, Vice Principal Fraczek, and teacher/advisors Sarah Tapply and Arielle Sutton, held their annual Induction / Moving-on Ceremony at the school. Nine new 7^th grade students joined the current 22 members of this class.

A record 37, 6^th grade students were inducted in to the NJHS and tribute was paid to the 29, 8^th grade members preparing to leave for high school. DMS President Maggie Rocha, was joined on stage by Vice President Alejandro Castro-Fernandez, Secretary Matthew Wilcox, 8^th grade Service Coordinator Alex McPherson and 7^th grade Officer Corey Kilroy.

The group spoke to the crowd about the high standards expected of them and reminded them to stay loyal to their school and their town. Congratulations to the new students inducted and our Best Wishes to the students moving up!

New 7^th grade members of the National Junior Honor Society include: Kalyn Ashby, Caroline Bell, Olivia Brancato, Declan Francis, Caroline Hathaway, Julia Mercer, Joseph Reen, Davin Sweeney and Shanaya Theodore.

Newly inducted 6^th grade students are: Maya Acosta, Anthony Amaru, Weilin Berkey, Laura Berry, Ava Bevilacqua, Hunter Broadbent, Isabelle Bruneau, Bridgette Crowley, Megan Curristin, Maria Desario, PJ DeVirgilio, Anexis Diamond, Danica Dignan, Jared Duane, Isabella Duchini, Erin Dwyer, Molly Egan, Sydney Haelsen, Alec Laurino, Amelia Layne, Jack Linari, Allison Logan, Jonathan Lombardi, Delaney MacDougall, Kyle Martens, Maleka McBarnett, Michael Murray, Gina Pasciuto, Lisa Petrie, Maeve Quilty, Jacquelin Sawer, Jessica Shanahan, Saronya Springer, Wyatt Staton-Todaro, Jacinda Sterlin, Dylan Uhrmann, and Tyler Vo. Catching Up With 'Biggest Loser's' Mike Dorsey In Time For Father's Day *The Biggest Loser* contestant *Mike Dorsey's* personal journey on the show hit home for a lot of viewers as he charged through the 14th season in an effort to lose weight to ensure a long life with his family, including son Little Mike. With Father's Day only a few days away, OK! caught up with the determined dad to find out how things are going post Biggest Loser and how he plans to spend the special holiday.

*Watch: What Did Alison Sweeney Reveal About Jillian Michaels?*

*OK!: What have you been up to since The Biggest Loser?*

*Mike Dorsey: *I’ve been getting reacclimated and enjoying my wife and my son a lot. I’ve had the opportunity to continue on in my fitness. I just recently ran another 5K that was actually held in my honor in Eleanor, West Virginia a couple of weeks ago. And I’ve been working on my first book about overcoming my one click.

*OK! News: Jillian Michaels Shares Realistic Tips For Getting Bikini Ready*

*OK!: What do you mean by one click?*

*MD:* Since I can remember I’ve been riding roller coasters. I love them. Once I graduated from college it got to a point where I was getting too big for them. In 2009 at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania I went to get on a ride and at one point there were three people actually trying to fit me onto the ride. I’ll never forget this, the attendants saying, “All we need is one click. All we need is one click.” They couldn’t hear the one click. I remember getting off of that ride and thinking I was one click away from getting what I wanted. I could smell it, taste it, see it, but I couldn’t have it. I told a buddy of mine about that story and he was inspired by it. He said, “You know, Mike, I’ve never struggled with my weight but I think everybody can relate to having that one click that they need to overcome.” For me, I’ve finally been able to hear my one click and I’ve actually been traveling around the country riding roller coasters and celebrating the fact that it was something I was able to overcome. I’m writing a book about sharing that story and helping other people overcome their one click.

*OK! News: 'Biggest Loser' Star Olivia Ward Opens Up About Fertility Struggle*

*OK!: What can you do with your son that you couldn’t do before?
MD:* Well, shoot, the fact that he’s a toddler and toddlers go 25,000 miles per hour, I’m able to chase him around the house which has been incredible, being able to be there for him. He was such a little baby when I started the process and now I’m starting to see the benefits so I guess the question is what are the things I’m able to do now that I probably wouldn’t have been able to do. I’m looking forward to, in a couple of years, coaching his little league baseball team. He inspired me for the show because right before the casting call for my season I was home alone with him one day and I went to run upstairs to help him from his crib. As I was running up the stairs I got a little dizzy and almost blanked out. When I finally came back to my senses I looked at him and realized if I didn’t do anything I probably wouldn’t be around too long. Being able to enjoy daddy time with Little Mike has been incredible.

*OK!: How are you spending Father’s Day this year?*

*MD: *It’s Sunday so we’ll definitely go to church and we’re going to have a family get-together with a family meal and celebrating with my dad as well. That will be nice. And we may even take a quick trip down to Six Flags and go on one of my favorite roller coasters down there.

Here's to hearing that one click, Mike!

No one says she’s starting now, least of all her.

But she’s, um, starting now — in an unofficial kind of way.

Clues seem overwhelming. Not only has Chow topped every poll as the one to beat in the October 2014 vote, but the city buzzes with news about her “campaign” — more than six months before she can even file nomination papers.

The hottest rumour is that she has asked veteran consultant John Laschinger, who ran successful races for Brian Mulroney and David Miller, among others, to manage her campaign.

“It’s common knowledge,” says one experienced political insider. “I’ve heard it from many people and you know John likes to get involved early.”

“There’s no candidate, no campaign and no campaign manager,” Laschinger said when reached by the Star recently.

Then he added: “I’m sure that I’m going to be involved one way or another in the campaign, and I think that she’s a good candidate.”

Asked if he’s been approached in any way by Chow or her people, Laschinger said: “No comment.”

Before ticking off any more clues, it’s only fair to ask Chow what she’s going to do.

“I’m thinking about it,” she says, during a Sunday evening interview in the south Annex home she shared with Jack Layton until his death from cancer in 2011. It’s early June and she’s curled on a couch in the living room where Layton passed away only a few months after leading the federal New Democrats to Official Opposition status that May.

The thing is, Chow doesn’t stop talking there.

“There’s no doubt that what is happening is quite sad with all the distractions. Toronto has such serious issues — traffic gridlock, public transit, youth unemployment — and yet the city seems mired in scandal,” says Chow, referring to the latest drama engulfing Mayor Rob Ford. Star reporters and the American website Gawker reported having seen a video where the mayor was smoking what appeared to be crack.

When I ask Chow later in the week about Laschinger, she responds: “I haven’t decided if I’m running, so how can I possibly think of a campaign manager?”

‘Formidable candidate’

What else can she say, asks Robin Sears, a consultant with Earnscliffe Strategy Group. “I think she’ll run but it’s not appropriate for her to say so.”

For starters, he points to election rules that make it illegal for candidates to organize or raise money for the next vote until they’ve filed nomination papers, and the earliest that can be done is the first business day of 2014.

But it’s more than that, Sears adds. “She’d be a lame duck in the (Commons) and she’d make herself a target (for Ford supporters) . . . They’re terrified of her. They know she’s the most formidable candidate. If she runs, I think she’ll win because she’s the most impressive alternative candidate to Mayor Ford.”

His professional advice? “I would encourage her to do exactly what she’s doing — keep her powder dry and keep smiling.”

Others see her election as a potential blunder for Toronto. Just because there’s a buzz around her doesn’t mean she’s universally loved. Corporate lawyer Ralph Lean hears all the chatter about Chow and worries: “She would a disaster for the city of Toronto. Seriously.

“She’s the wrong person at the wrong time. I’ve watched her voting record and it’s ‘spend, spend, spend.’ She’s on the extreme left of the NDP,” insists Lean, a major Conservative fundraiser. “I will support any candidate who runs against Olivia Chow.”

On this recent Sunday evening at her home, the Trinity-Spadina MP is overnighting on her way back to Ottawa from the Vancouver conference of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. She took part as NDP transport critic and describes the drubbing Toronto took at the weekend event. Her mother, Ho Sze Chow, bustles about in the kitchen, grumbling in a stage whisper in Cantonese (as translated by Chow) about how her daughter tries to boss her elderly mother around, obviously without success.

“Nine out of 10 people came up in Vancouver and gave me a big hug, said they missed Jack, that I look better and then, the next line, ‘What is happening in Toronto?’ and they have this look on their faces — really something,” Chow explains. “The mayors of Vancouver and Calgary asked me, ‘What’s going on?’ I’m speechless. There’s not a lot I can say.”

She’s laughing as she tells these stories, mischievous and looking about 12, instead of her 56 years.

It’s true, says Chow, that she fights for money, just as she’s doing in her current job. She wants more infrastructure money for cities and argues that the Conservative government is playing a shell game with Canadian cities — using old, already committed funding to spend less on infrastructure. Transport Minister Denis Lebel denies the claim and doesn’t support Chow’s plan for a dedicated national transit committee with transparent funding.

What’s wrong with asking for money, Chow wants to know. She remembers former mayor Mel Lastman fighting for money for child-care programs at the municipalities conference in May 2000. Chow describes the Lastman mantra loudly: “Show me the money!”

Closing a chapter

The signs for a Chow campaign appear good — at least for now. HarperCollins is publishing her memoirs next January at the beginning of the election year. Layton, whom she married in 1988, was “such a big piece of my life” that Chow says she felt it was time to take stock, to close that chapter and to “think more of the future.”

Anne McGrath, former Layton chief-of-staff and a close Chow friend, says there is enormous pressure on her. “Everybody is talking to her. Everybody is asking her to run. Everybody is ready to support Olivia. I believe she feels she owes it to all the people who want to work for her to think seriously about running.”

Loyal advisers seem to be fairly bursting to work for a Chow candidacy. Joe Cressy, her 2011 federal campaign chair, rattles off all the trends in the recent Forum Research Inc. poll showing Chow beating Ford in every region of Toronto and among voters across the political spectrum. She receives high support among younger voters, which Cressy says “speaks to a vision for the future.”

The recent poll, a sampling of just under 1,000 Torontonians, shows Chow defeating Ford 57 per cent to 36 per cent in a one-to-one matchup and winning in a sampling of three-way races. (She wins in all other configurations except when the centre-left opposition is split three ways.)

But nobody talks about the taboo subject of raising money. Bob Gallagher, who worked for her during some of her 14 years on city council (she won several races) and for her 2011 federal campaign, says Chow already has donor lists from many campaigns, both municipal and federal; she can’t use them now, but she would hit the ground running.

“She is someone with credibility,” says Gallagher, communications director for the United Steelworkers.

Councillor Mike Layton, her stepson and good friend, says Chow is “one of those people who can bring this city together and stop all the name-calling. That’s what Toronto needs right now.”

On council since 2010, Layton missed serving with either his father or Chow, but says he grew up on their politics. “Our mayor talks about his fishing trips with the PM and backyard barbecues but he doesn’t seem to be able to get a penny for infrastructure money to benefit our city.”

Chow seems tough. Insults roll off her back, like last fall, when Doug Ford, the mayor’s brother, who says she’d be a “tax-and-spend” mayor, added that she was “no Jack Layton.”

Maybe not, but this is the woman who walked around for months with a tumour on her thyroid — one that turned out to be cancerous — because she was “too busy.” She agreed to surgery in 2005 only because her husband and other family members wouldn’t let it be.

Adjusting to loss

She needed that strength when she arrived in Toronto at 13 from Hong Kong, without English and with parents whose relationship soon deteriorated. Her intelligent, elegant father, a former school board superintendent and opera singer, couldn’t find work and became depressed and abusive. He never really recovered and Chow’s relationship with her father was very strained before he developed Alzheimer’s disease.

She’s a graduate of the Ontario College of Art with a fine arts degree from Guelph University and selected religion and philosophy courses from U of T. Her sculptures are powerful, one massive work in cement hangs in the living room. “The picture I like the most, Jack can’t handle,” she told me once. “So it’s chucked down the basement.” At the time, in 2005, I described it in the Star as “hugely phallic and hugely interesting.”

She misses him so much, his humour, his energy and knows she’ll never get over his loss. It’s a gradual adjustment to living without him. She finds love in her family, particularly her little granddaughters, Beatrice and Solace.

McGrath believes Chow formed a special bond with Canadians, and particularly Torontonians, in the days after her husband’s death. “She was so calm, serene, almost regal, and yet, at the same time, broken-hearted,” says McGrath. “People couldn’t help forming an emotional connection with her.”

“Olivia has two great love affairs in her life,” says Cressy. “One with Jack. And one with the city of Toronto.”

The strongest image of those last days in August 2011 was Chow, dry-eyed, her face immobile, like wax, standing by her husband’s coffin in Ottawa, in Toronto and at the state funeral at Roy Thomson Hall.

Ironically, sixteen months later, Chow’s face did become immobile, paralyzed by a facial nerve infection. At a time when her mouth was twisted and her smile non-existent, she just shrugged it off.

She’s slight and limber and nothing stopped her from zipping around the city on her flower-festooned bike — except perhaps snowstorms. Quite severe when the paralysis struck in December 2012, it has almost completely disappeared and Chow has regained mobility in her face

“Do I have thick skin? Who knows,” she says, and laughs again. “But I’ll tell you one thing, when people tell me they want me to run, I ask them what kind of city they want . . . I get them talking about their passions and ask: ‘Why wait? Why don’t you participate now?’ ”

Sounds like election talk. Reported by Toronto Star 9 hours ago.

Miss USA Winners Pose Naked For PETA Ads Four Miss USA winners posed naked for PETA's newest ad with the message, "Feel Beautiful in Your Own Skin, and Let Animals Keep Theirs." Susie Castillo, Shandi Finnessey, Shanna Moakler and Alyssa Campanella also pledged to go fur-free.

"I've been an animal lover all my life, and the more I learned of the torture that animals go through in the name of fashion, I just think it's so unnecessary ... it's unbelievable to me," Castillo said. She said she felt "blessed" to be a part of the campaign "to take a stand united and to tell the pageant industry not to support the fur industry."

The ad was shot by Fadil Berisha and is one of many for the company that teams with celebrities to get their message out. PETA has done ad campaigns with Khloe Kardashian-Odom, Wendy Williams, Olivia Munn and Evelyn lozada.

"As long as I'm the director of Miss Nevada, we will never award fur coats as prizes, and I urge my fellow pageant directors to make the same pledge," Moakler said in a statement to PETA. "Kind people today are taking a stand against cruelty to animals — so a fur coat is no prize for a compassionate, socially aware woman."

Narragansett HS Graduates at Ryan Center Patch Narragansett - South Kingstown, RI --

*   *

Family, friends and educators gathered at URI's Ryan Center on Thursday night to celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime event; the graduation of 109 Narragansett High School seniors who have been working for the past 13 years to reach this point.

Those in attendance reminisced about the four years of high school that seemingly flew by and listened to heartfelt and inspiring speeches from Valedictorian/Senior Class Co-President Eliza DeCubellis, Salutatorian Heather Dorich, Senior Class Co-President Evan Carvalho, and retired Narragansett teacher Ulysses Gallman.

Graduates watched attentively as class officers Samantha Harrington, Sara Ryan and Victoria Sauro recited the class ode, then the Class of 2013 left their legacy behind with a gift of two benches for the school.

One by one, members of the Narragansett High School Class of 2013 then climbed the steps of the Ryan Center stage as high schoolers, received their diplomas, and stepped down as graduates.

The newly-crowned NHS alumni ended the evening by turning their tassels and dancing as a class to September by Earth, Wind & Fire.

Congratulations, Class of 2013!

Watch Out, Fitz: Jake's Coming Back!

"Scandal" has promoted Scott Foley to series regular status for Season 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I'm thrilled to join such a talented, enthusiastic and professional group of people," Foley said in a statement. "Shonda and company have created a troupe of layered complex characters and to be able to be part of that is both exciting and humbling."

Last seen being thrown into the solitary confinement hole that drove Huck (Guillermo Diaz) insane, Foley's character, Jake Ballard, spent most of Season 2 romancing and surveilling Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) on the orders of Rowan (Joe Morton), the head of covert government agency B613 and -- as was revealed in the closing moments of the Season 2 finale -- Olivia's father.

Since Foley's been tapped as a regular next season, we're guessing he won't spend too much time in that hole -- but will he be the same man once he comes out, or will he be a shell of his former self, as Huck was?

Jake clearly cares about Olivia, enough to disobey direct orders to save her life, and before the Season 2 finale, Foley told HuffPost TV that Jake has likely been hoping for a way out of B613. "Everybody who we know who's been in B613, from Huck to Charlie [George Newbern], they all seem to want out, they all seem to be in a position where they don't like their job. And maybe Jake's in the same position -- if they want out, why wouldn't he? They seem like they loved their jobs at one point," he observed. "I think Jake has, to a degree, taken matters into his own hands in regards to what both Fitz and Rowan have asked him to do, and I think we'll see the consequences for that, and that may or may not end Jake as we know him."

As for his hopes for Season 3, Foley admitted that he would love to see a showdown between Jake and the other B613 agent who cares for Olivia -- Huck. "I think that'd be interesting, to have the two of them sit down and hash it out. Who loves Olivia more, Huck or Jake? Fitz [Tony Goldwyn] needs to go back to his wife and calm down," he laughed.

*Are you looking forward to seeing Foley return to "Scandal" next season?* Reported by Huffington Post 4 hours ago.

7 Tips for Breadwinner Wives Feeling the Strain

*Women who earn more than their husbands in midlife often get an unwanted bonus: tension in their marriage. Here’s how to cope.*

By Kerry Hannon

This past weekend, two close friends visited my husband and me at our Virginia countryside cottage. This married couple is roughly our age -- 50s -- and, like us, don’t have kids.

She has a senior-level government job and has been promoted twice in the past few years.

He accepted a buyout package from a financial services firm two years ago and has been working part time for a small tech business as well as pro bono on a dream project with a friend.

He has tried relentlessly to get a full-time job matching his old salary, but come up short.

(*MORE:* Does Being a Mom Help or Hurt Your Career?)

As you can probably tell, she’s the breadwinner. That's the reverse of the way things were earlier in their marriage.

*Frustration for One Breadwinner Wife*

So I had to ask her: How are things working out now that you’re earning more than your husband?

“It’s frustrating,” she said, without hesitation.

Any other week, that kind of question might have sounded impudent. But given all the media attention that has accompanied the new Pew Research Center study showing that women are the breadwinners in 40 percent of households with children and that 19 percent of married mothers age 47 to 65 outearn their husbands, I felt it was fair game.

When I asked my friend the question, we happened to be standing next to a dartboard at a pub where we were having lunch. She pointed to it. “That’s what our counselor told me to do: put up a dartboard in your basement," she said, "and get your anger out by throwing darts at the board, instead of having an argument when you get frustrated.”

*Lower-Earning Husbands Can Be Resentful*

My friend’s marriage issues are hardly unique. In his recent New York Times article, “Breadwinning Wives and Nervous Husbands,” Richard Thaler, a behavioral economist at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, wrote “evidence suggests that while men tend to applaud their spouses when they help to bring home the bacon, husbands aren’t always as enthusiastic when women start bringing home the filet mignon.”

Married couples with breadwinner wives are likely to become more common.

Liza Mundy, author of "The Richer Sex: How the New Majority of Female Breadwinners Is Transforming Sex, Love and Family," calls it “The Big Flip.” She believes that within a generation, the majority of married households will feature wives who out-earn their husbands.

*What Experts and Couples Told Me*

So I decided to further explore the female breadwinner phenomenon of couples in their 50s and 60s and offer advice, based on interviews with financial experts, psychologists and married couples I know where the women are bringing in the most dough.

(*MORE:* Relationship Rescue: Resolving Money Issues)

My female friends said they’ve seen a shift in their relationships with their husbands. While the guys are genuinely proud of their wives’ smarts and great jobs, they’ve generally had to contain their inner angst. A few of the husbands said, however, that they’re relieved to be free of the provider burden at this stage of their lives.

Some of these couples have sought help from counselors as a result of their financial dynamic, but none have split up.

*7 Tips for Breadwinning Wives*

If you’re a woman trying to deal with this new, uncharted territory, here are seven ways to navigate it:

*1. Don’t apologize to your husband, or the world at large, for making more money than him.* You should be proud of your accomplishments and accept that it’s fine to be the breadwinner.

A lot of women your age “really do feel OK with this,” says Olivia Mellan, a psychotherapist in Washington, D.C., and author of "Money Harmony: Resolving Money Conflicts in Your Life and Relationships."“Many boomer women were not raised with the expectation that they need someone who earns more than they do. In fact, they were raised to be the breadwinner in some cases.”

Admittedly, adopting this attitude can be tricky -- especially when you’re with friends.

Peggy Drexler, a psychology professor at Cornell’s Weill Medical College, writes in Forbes about one woman who got defensive when she felt her friends considered her husband a slacker because he earned less than her. Drexler said the woman often felt like she had to play down her own economic contributions to the household while offering her husband reassurances that she valued his masculinity.

*2. Be honest with yourself regarding how you feel about the situation.* You might genuinely abhor wearing the proverbial pants, because you’ve long felt that husbands should earn more than wives. Accepting this feeling will help keep your resentment from building, Mellan said.

*3. If you’re angry or resentful, find a way to get to the bottom of it.* You'll want to figure out what's behind your frustration. Is it that you think your husband should be doing more to find work or to get a higher-paying job? You'd like to work less feverishly but feel you have no choice because you and your spouse need the income? You believe your husband should do more to help out in other ways? You're still harboring a grudge because you think he didn't pull his weight on childcare duties when your kids were younger? Or might there be deeper marital issues at play?

One exercise Mellan suggests is writing out your feelings in a letter to your husband but not showing it to him. Then, imagine the note he’d write back with his point of view and write that one, too.

(*MORE:* Forget Leaning In, Let’s Talk About Leaning Out)

Once you’ve pushed yourself to see things from his perspective, you’ll be more prepared to have a face-to-face talk with him, Mellan said.

*4. Set aside time to talk about how things are going for both of you.* “Stay connected,” advises Roberta Taylor, a couples relationship coach in Waltham, Mass., and co-author of "The Couple’s Retirement Puzzle."“Being heard without judgment or criticism can deepen your connection particularly during difficult times.”

Appreciate that your husband may experience a period of grieving after a loss of a job and earnings that are connected to his identity, self-esteem and sense of success, Taylor said. “Convey a positive attitude and sense of teamwork showing that ‘we're in this together,’” she added.

Mellan uses a “mirroring” exercise to help couples have this discussion. Each plays back what the other says without editorial comment. This technique builds more empathy and compassion, Mellan said.

After this initial talk, you can segue into the “What’s next?” discussion. You might learn that your husband doesn’t want a high-powered job or a full-time position at all. The two of you may need to downsize to live on a reduced household income. Both of you may need to re-evaluate your lives.

*5. Clarify expectations of each other.* Maintaining respect for what both of you are doing and how you’re each contributing to the marriage will help you function as a team, said Dorian Mintzer, a Boston money and relationship coach and Taylor’s co-author.

“Otherwise it's too easy for assumptions and resentments to infect the relationship,” Mintzer said.

Remember, there’s a lot more to a marriage than just financial support. Emotional support is essential, too.

Couples need to realize that “it doesn’t really matter in the end who makes more money,” Elaine Pofeldt wrote in a Forbes post. “What’s important is working together to meet the needs of their families.”

*6. Seek out role models.* You might know other couples going through what you are. If so, Mellan said, look for ones “who have navigated this situation happily and ask for advice on how they did it.”

*7. Break the tension by finding ways to have fun.* Taylor suggests spending more time together doing the types of things you enjoy doing as a couple. Visit with friends and family; take a trip.

Sounds like our friends’ jaunt to the Virginia countryside last weekend to visit us was the perfect getaway for them (even if I did ask that pesky breadwinner question).

Now, I think I’ll give my friend a call to pass along these tips so she’ll feel a little less frustrated and maybe put an end to her dart-throwing days.

Cine-files: PeckhamPlex, London

One of London's few independent multiplexes

This week's Cine-files is by blogger and critic John Nugent, who is on Twitter at mr_nugent and posts at thenuge.co.uk. If there's a cinema you'd like to tell us about for a future Cine-files, drop an email to adam.boult@guardian.co.uk.

*Location*

PeckhamPlex is, naturally, found in Peckham, an unlovely but lively London neighbourhood still struggling to shake off its unmerited reputation as a hive of gang violence and the home of Del Boy Trotter. Though the edges may admittedly be scruffy, there is a vibrant, buoyant local community, and the cinema - one of the few wholly independent multiplexes in the country - is a gleaming beacon to that community spirit.

*Building*

Nestled between a train station and a multi-storey car park (which, in a sign of the area's ongoing gentrification, doubles as a rooftop bar and art space in the summer), the purpose-built premises opened in 1994 on the site of an old supermarket, and has been going ever since. As with most of its multiplex brethren, sticky carpets and greasy overpriced snacks are par for the course, but these minor quibbles are easily forgiven, given the £4.99 ticket price – probably the cheapest in London.

*Clientele*

With such a wallet-friendly pricing strategy, the PeckhamPlex attracts the full gamut of thrifty film fans, from local residents to penniless art students from the nearby Goldsmiths College. There's also a chance you will also rub shoulders with a few local celebs – recently anointed national treasure Olivia Colman is a regular.

*Programme*

The usual blockbusting fare dominates, but since new owners took the reins in 2010, the cinema has committed to screening at least one one "independent, art-house or foreign language film" a week. There's also regular special screenings, film-maker Q&As (Ken Loach and Penny Woolcock have taken the stage in the past), and local events like the Peckham & Nunhead Free film festival.

*Further comments*

In many ways, PeckhamPlex is Peckham in microcosm: it ain't pretty on the surface, but those who know it cherish it dearly. Playing an enthusiastic community role, it's a paragon of what indie cinemas can achieve when unshackled from the corporate chains. And who can argue at a fiver a pop?
