Olivia Munn Keeps WHAT On Her Nightstand?!

$

Olivia Munn is a rare combination of brains, beauty and humor, that we know. But what we were surprised to find out is the lengths she'd go to to make herself feel safe.

Munn, 32, answered Marie Claire magazine's personal questionnaire (which will appear in their July issue) and revealed some very interesting tidbits about her life.

For instance, when asked what one would find on her nightstand, the gorgeous actress replied "Melatonin; The Singularity Is Near by Ray Kurzweil; strawberry lip balm; a 980,000-volt stun gun for protection; Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream."

Wait, what? A stun gun?

Munn, whose HBO show "The Newsroom" returns July 14, also talks to the magazine about her anxiety disorder -- a condition she opened up about last year. "It's manifested in trichotillomania, a disorder that gives me the urge to pull out my eyelashes," she says.

For more on Munn, head over to MarieClaire.com, or pick up the magazine's July issue. Reported by Huffington Post 11 hours ago.

Beautifully crafted and acted drama starring Academy Award® nominee John Hawkes to be available across North America.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 18, 2013

Film Movement, the distributor of award-winning independent and foreign films, announces today that Arcadia, a summertime road film starring Academy Award® nominee John Hawkes, will be released on DVD on July 23rd, 2013 in North America and will also be available via On Demand and iTunes. This debut feature from emerging filmmaker Olivia Silver centers around Tom (Hawkes) and his three children, who set out on a cross-country road trip without their mother, a journey that challenges the family dynamic and tests each of their resolve to find better futures on the west coast. The film also stars Ryan Simpkins (A Single Man), Ty Simpkins (Iron Man 3) and Kendall Toole.

All Film Movement DVD releases include a short film— this month’s release is Little Canyon, filmmaker Olivia Silver’s short film that served as the inspiration for Arcadia. The film is 15 minutes in length and provides a unique glimpse into a film’s evolution from inception to feature-length execution.

Winner of the Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, Arcadia will be available on DVD at Film Movement, and also through major retailers such as Amazon.com. The film will be available to stream directly from Film Movement for just $3.99; online streaming begins July 23rd and can be accessed here. Additionally, Amazon Instant and iTunes will make the film available for rent or download beginning July 23rd.

Accolades for Arcadia:

“Ms. Silver’s ability to … catch those moments between innocence and knowing, childhood and adulthood, unforgiving and forgiving, makes her someone to watch.” – Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

“…a nicely-honed sense of poignancy…Silver’s sensitively written and directed scenario make Arcadia feel fresh…” – Christopher Bourne, TwitchFilm.com

Synopsis of Arcadia:

A coming-of-age story set in a vast, cross-country landscape, Arcadia begins when twelve-year-old Greta’s (Ryan Simpkins) dad Tom (John Hawkes) wakes her up before dawn and crams her and her two siblings in the family’s dented station wagon. They set off on a 3,000 mile journey from the New England woods to the California desert. On the way, Tom tells enchanting stories, paints pictures of a California paradise and assures his kids that Mom will soon join them. Greta believes him at first, mesmerized by the strange new scenery and clinging to her stuffed bunny, Harrison. Older sister Caroline (Kendall Toole) nonchalantly accepts his stories, more focused on the boyfriend she’s left behind. And nine-year-old Nat (Ty Simpkins), too young to suspect anything awry, is eager to see the epic Grand Canyon. But Tom’s mood shifts as often as the landscape outside their window, and the kids soon find themselves in increasingly unpleasant – and even dangerous – situations, all while Mom’s presence recedes with every mile they travel.

Acclaim for Arcadia:

Winner – Crystal Bear at the Berlin Film Festival
Winner – Best Children’s Film at the Oulu International Film Festival
Official Selection – Sarasota Film Festival
Official Selection – Woodstock Film Festival
Official Selection – Indianapolis International Film Festival
Official Selection – Chesapeake Film Festival

Miss USA Winners Pose Naked For PETA Ads Four Miss USA winners posed naked for PETA's newest ad with the message, "Feel Beautiful in Your Own Skin, and Let Animals Keep Theirs." Susie Castillo, Shandi Finnessey, Shanna Moakler and Alyssa Campanella also pledged to go fur-free.

"I've been an animal lover all my life, and the more I learned of the torture that animals go through in the name of fashion, I just think it's so unnecessary ... it's unbelievable to me," Castillo said. She said she felt "blessed" to be a part of the campaign "to take a stand united and to tell the pageant industry not to support the fur industry."

The ad was shot by Fadil Berisha and is one of many for the company that teams with celebrities to get their message out. PETA has done ad campaigns with Khloe Kardashian-Odom, Wendy Williams, Olivia Munn and Evelyn lozada.

"As long as I'm the director of Miss Nevada, we will never award fur coats as prizes, and I urge my fellow pageant directors to make the same pledge," Moakler said in a statement to PETA. "Kind people today are taking a stand against cruelty to animals — so a fur coat is no prize for a compassionate, socially aware woman."

An essential night of fun!

An essential night of fun! This is Grimsby --

THEY got the moves like Jagger!

Up to 170 children danced the cha-cha, quick step, jive and the waltz in the annual Essentially Dance showcase.

Primary schools, including Old Clee, Elliston, Bursar, Thrunscoe, Coomb Briggs, Great Coates, Welholme, St Joseph's and Humberston Church Of England, danced to an audience of proud parents at the Grimsby Auditorium.

In its third year in North East Lincolnshire, it was organised through the Specialist Health Promotion Service, to get children active.

Two teachers from each school were selected and trained up, and then taught their moves to pupils during PE.

Co-ordinator Laura Peggs, 31, said: "This is about getting children active in a different way, instead of football or other competitive sports. This gives them the opportunity to do real, physical exercise in a fun, enjoyable way.

"It looks absolutely fabulous, the kids are beaming."

Before pupils took to the stage, the UK's top youth dance couple, Adam Godfrey, 18, and Olivia Oates, 16, performed ballroom and latin dances.

Director of Essentially Dance, Dale Bennett, added: "Dancing means constant movement and full participation of all children."

Mandela 'Recovering Very Well'

(Reuters) - Former South African president and anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela is recovering well from a lung infection which has kept him in a serious condition in hospital for a week, his grandson said on Saturday.

The comment by Mandla Mandela was the latest indication that the health of his 94-year-old grandfather, South Africa's first black president, was showing signs of improvement. Mandela has been receiving visits from family members after he was rushed to hospital a week ago with a recurrence of lung problems.

"Madiba is recovering very well and looks good," Mandla Mandela said in Qunu, a village in the Eastern Cape province where Mandela was born and spent his early years.

Speaking in Xhosa at a funeral of another relative, Mandla used the clan name 'Madiba' by which Mandela is popularly known.

"I thank the nation and the world for the prayers for Madiba, and the doctors and the office of the ANC for keeping the family updated," he said.

South Africa's government said on Thursday that Mandela was continuing to recover but his condition remained serious.

Mandela's hospitalization is his fourth since December and has reinforced growing awareness among South Africa's 53 million people that they will one day have to say goodbye to the father of the "Rainbow Nation" created from the ashes of apartheid.

Mandela has a history of lung problems dating back to his time at the windswept Robben Island prison camp near Cape Town. He was released in 1990 after 27 years behind bars and went on to serve as president from 1994 to 1999.
